Arriving in the Picton region
by Kate-Me
As we neared Picton, it was the little speed boats and fishing craft which we saw, before we sighted the harbour.
Those and huge rolling green hills, which were not as green as I was expecting though.
The views were just spectacular, and I'd had no idea that so much of the cruise journey would be spent with land on both sides of us, like cruising in a channel.
Picton - Waikawa Bay Track

Running along the side of the Snout is the Picton - Waikawa Bay track. It's an easy walk and has stunning views over the Malborough Sounds from several spots. You can start the track from beside the Picton marina.
Picton

Picton is a small town of just a few thousand people, but its a pleasant place with nice surrounding scenery worth a few days exploring. If travelling to or from the north island by ferry you will have to pass through Picton no matter what.
