The Picton Bowls club, I am reliably informed, is the friendliest club in NZ and welcome all visitors. You can stop in for a roll-up and stay for a quiet drink - so as to assist in whetting your pallete to allow you to pontificate on the wonders of the game of bowls. For those of you who saw the movie Crackerjack - beware stories of Sir Frances Drake, swear jars and sub committees. Try to be wearing white and court shoes. You should be able to loan some bowls.
I visited here after staying in Blenheim last year. A nice spot with weather much cooler than that of Blenheim - I suppose the Sea etc has something to do with this. The hills around Picton also seem to stop any low cloud from escaping.
