Wineries
where ever you go or drive, you drive through vinyards, well not directly. roads are lined with vinyards, right left, left right. shortly before the harvest of the grapes, a heavy scent dazzels your sences.
actually Nelson use to be sheep country, endless paddocks with sheep, that scent didn't dazzle your sences ......and while the hot climate comes with a high fire risk, Nelson's Farmers thought of something easier to do, sold of the sheep and putting grapes in. the fertil soil left behind from the sheep did the deed......Nelson has become New Zealands Wine Capital.
sorry Hawks Bay, you will always have a great drop too!
one of the finest around Nelson, the Owner immigrated from Austria in the mid 70's, a vintner by trade already and with his NZ born Wife started Seifrieds Winery.
when in Nelson, look it up and have a good time in the Vinyards Garten Cafe
