Coming from Oslo you'll find it hot in NZ anytime of year ;O)
I did a few dives there a number of years ago, in mid-November. I just checked my dive log - the water temperature was around 20 degrees at surface and at depth. The 7mm wet suit was a bit too warm.

Yes, really good that you are from Oslo ;-))) I am from Germany and find the water in NZ cold everywhere...
Water temperatures in the north are about 21°C in summer, and in the very south of the South Island only 14°C. Nelson's water is not warmer than 20°C, down here in Christchurch about 18°C - and 10°C at the moment LOL

and if you haven't got an accommodation like this, you can walk on the Hills around Nelson, looking over the Tasman Sea and the Sounds. it is pretty, it is friendly and it is all there...in Nelson
It is know as Australasia's largest and most exotic "Bead Gallery". If you're interested in craft works... give this a try. I bet you'll find lots and lots of interesting beads. You can either make your own jewellery to your personal taste or have it custom-made.
