The Alpine Lodge is hard to miss in St. Arnaud - the fact that it is the only Hotel there may have something to do with it! Facilities were pleasant enough, although somewhat stuck in the 80's, and the room heater was not adequate for the night temperatures in winter. However, hearing the native parrots, the Kea, kick up a bit of a "chorus of disapproval" during the night was certainly worth the cost of accomodation!
The restaurant serves good food with a New Zealand flavour at a price similar to other restaurant meals in the region, although you need to be quick - meals are served between set times only, so its best to check first otherwise you could starve.
Good, comfortable accomodation in beautiful surroundings. I would recommend it to others based on my visit, although I have heard from others visitors that the standard of service leaves a lot to be desired at times.
Unique Quality: Great views, close to National park, Lake, walks etc.
Directions: Its on the only main street - you can't miss it from either direction!
