Born of Gold Holiday Park: Self catering stay
We came to stay here because all of the options in Queenstown that were in our budget were sold out. The Holiday Park in Queenstown set us up with the reservation with a slight discount for out troubles.
Upon arrival, the place was nice. There were individual suites that cater to up to four people. It was winter and the heaters worked quickly to warm the place up too. The bed was comfortable too.
Two negatives were that the TV was small and limited to only ~4 channels. Also, the entire night we were quite comfortable, yet when we woke up in the morning our water pipes were frozen. I didn't think the temperatures were that out of the ordinary, so can only assume the pipes were not insulated or buried properly. May not be a factor if you avoid the dead of winter.
Unique Quality: There is a coin-on laundry if required. The office also offers internet for a fee.
If you get the backpackers rooms, there is a shared shower, otherwise the cabins have their individual en suites.

Riverdown: Pretty surroundings
Pretty gardens outside the guest house, parking available off the street

Riverdown Guesthouse: Enchanting
An old historical cottage of the 1890's
Set next to the river with beautiful gardens.
Fully self contained just like a home away from home.
Closed over NZ winter months....May - October 2003
Off street parking
Unique Quality: Very near to the walking tracks and also close to the town centre.
Very small so bookings are advised.
Very well priced, for 5 of us we paid just $105. NZ dollars
15 minutes to Queenstown and 7 minutes from Lake Hayes
