The stereotypical autumn Otago scene?
by worldkiwi
This is one of my favourite photos from my day in Arrowtown. It just sums up autumn in this part of the country for me. I had to wait ages to take this though as there were hordes of people enjoying a walk around the lower than usual Arrow River.
Arrowtown Autumn Festival
by kiwi
If you visit during Late April you should be in time for the Arrowtown Autumn Festival. This is reknown for it's stunning autumn colours as the trees all around the hills and town change to amazing colours before they fall.
Festivities in town are fun, mostly period from the pioneer days of Arrowtown. Artists, singers, actors and residents all perform at some time through the festival celebrating the towns heritage and association with the Arrow River.
Check the festival site here.
Autumn Festival
by TomorrowsAngel
Each April the streets of Arrowtown are transformed with festivities as Arrowtown celebrates its goldmining heritage by way of the Autumn Festival. The locals don period costumes and provide an opportunity for all to join in art, craft and music activities.
Stop to Smell the Flowers
by cnango
While walking around Historical Arrowtown i saw this lovely garden. The smell of lavender filled the air and it looked so beautiful growing next to this rustic stone building. I have always heard that like the British, Kiwis also have a way with flowers. Some very beautiful gardens can be discovered all around NZ.
Drive the Crown Range
by kiwi
If you are visiting in the summer months, this makes rather an exciting and nice drive. At the Arrow Junction, on Highway 6, take the Crown Range road. This will take you on a very windy road up the hill to a wonderful lookout where you can stop and look back over Arrowtown and see how it is nestled in to the mountains. This photo is taken from the lookout.
This road is mostly ok during summer months but in winter, especially in icy/snowy conditions the road is extremely dangerous and often closed. I don't recomment you try to drive this road during winter.
