The Leviathan Hotel saved our life!
Dunedin was fully packed with students and their families on the eve of the new university year, and we looked for a room everywhere with no success. We even had dinner in a petrol station bar because our accomodation quest lasted for hours and it was too late to look for an open restaurant.
We ended up in front of the Leviathan, and we were told that we had a chance: one of the reserved rooms was still free because the man who made the booking didn't show up and midnight had passed!
We would have not minded sleeping in our car if only we were not soaked with water after visiting the Moeraki boulders in the rain!
I think the man at the reception wanted to help us since we told him we were in our honeymoon!
The hotel dates back to the late 19th century, and rooms are old-fashioned and very humble but clean and tidy, and the breakfast buffet is rich. The hotel offers nice areas with sofas and nice views on the area. We paid 105NZ$ for a double room.
