But first, the location in the heart of the city, just a short stroll from the Octagon, opposite the Exchange and the Queens Gardens, is appealing.
Second, the rooms are very nice. I would add: You would not remember anything special about the hotel, it is just one of these not very uniquely designed modern hotels you would find anywhere else.
The Southern Cross is Dunedin’s largest hotel, offering 178 guest rooms and suites. It also is an historic hotel, the core dating back to 1883, and the rooms living up to modern style and comfort. And finally, it is linked to the Casino, features two restaurants, a café and a bar. It has 24 hour reception and room service – and it is smokefree.
The full Full rates are NZ$ 281 (single/twin room) to $534 (executive suite). But they have rates of the day that can be $100 below the full rate, and on www.wotif.com at the moment (as Feb. 2008) it comes to NZ$ 187.
It could also be interesting for you to know that the hotel has wireless hotspot service, and a gym with sunbed.
