COMFORT Inn Melbourne lodge, what a bad joke!

It was dirty, the room was cold and smelled. The furniture was shabby, beds & blankets looked as if they were from the 1970's at least. The sink was cracked, curtains and bathroom shower had mildew. No effort has been made to upgrade the facilities. The service was unhelpful, breakfast very poor, no assistance, we had to ask at the reception for a second cup of coffee. I was annoyed that I had been debited on my credit card $24.00 after having paid the bill in cash. On my email I didn’t even get an answer. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.

Cheap Accommodation in QT - Abba Garden Motel?

by womack00

I'm planning a trip to queenstown in July this year, I'm looking basically for something cheap (but not flea or rat infested). The Abba Garden motel caught my eye for something like that (http://www.abba.co.nz/). Has anyone been there, and would they recommend as a place to lay my head for a week? The other one im looking at is Caples Court, which seems a bit better but can only take 4 people.

Any comments on those 2 would be appreciated.

I stayed two nights at the Abba Garden two years ago. We had a studio kitchenette and it was fine. It could do with modernising ( decor was a hoot) but apart from that, no dramas.
It is a walkable distance to the hubbub of downtown Queenstown and even though it is on the main highway, everything quietens down overnight ... I slept right through the night undisturbed and that is a rarity for me.

There is a supermarket a short walk up the road which is perfect for self-catering.

Anyone got an update on this? I have been researching accommodation in Queenstown for 2 weeks now and I'm getting battleweary. I'm looking for somewhere that can offer a 2 bedroom apartment for under $160 a night for 2 people. My shortlist is Abba Garden Motel, Top 10 Holiday Park (Creeksyde) and Comfort Inn Melbourne Lodge. I like the look of Creeksyde, but their 1 month cancellation period is draconian; the norm is 48hrs. Comfort Inn is at the top end of my budget level, so that puts Abba Garden Motel in the number one spot. I would really like to hear from people who have stayed there or have other places for me to consider.

• Total Length: 730m
• Incline Angle: average of 37.1 degrees

Bungy Jump Adrenalin Rush!!

by kiwi

Bungy jump over the local rivers, and get the thrill of your life.

There are a few sites around New Zealand where you can make a bungy jump. The first and original commercial site (started 1988) is right here near Queenstown at the Kawarau Bridge. This is also the base and home of AJHackett Bungy.
You will find a very modern, well presented centre, with display and cafe/bar available to use. This is a great place where friends who are not jumping can hang out while you do the business!
As you can see I did this jump, it was fantastic. Bit scary standing on the plank and jumping but once airborne I loved it! And NO, my eyes didn't pop out of their sockets :-))
It's a little bit awkward at the bottom for staff to catch you and get you released into the boat, but all part of the fun.

AJHackett offer packages for this and other sites, check their website for these details.

Minimum 10 yrs old.
Minimum 35kg, Maximum 235 kg.
Basic bungy at Kawarau - from NZD$180 Don't forget to empty your pockets first!!

Kawarau Bungy Centre

by imstress

The Kawarau Bridge Bungy jump is the home to the world's first and famous bungy jump. It is a 43m high bungy jump operated since Nov 1988.
By popular demand, the staff performed a forward Bungy jump, by throwing himself off the bridge with his legs attached by a single rubber band.
5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 BUNGY!!! and off he goes.

For $140, you can choose to jump backwards, forwards, tandem with another person, spin or somersault at the Kawarau Bungy Centre.
Highway 6 between Queenstown and Cromwell.

Gold Mining History

by kiwigal_1

Arrowtown which is 25 minutes from Queenstown was settled in 1867 when gold was discovered in the Arrow River. The local museum offers information on the history of the gold rush. It is also possible to pan for gold in the area.

Mexican

by dmirebella about Sombreros Mexican Restaurant

For a laid back but hearty Mexican meal - head down Sombreros - with plenty of tequila available (not that I had any on that day), good company and conversation - its a good place to chill out for a bite or a snack .. The nachos - ask for spicy - no need for any additional condiments
