The Gleeb Apartments: Excellent Value - comfortable and upscale

The hotel is fairly new (within the last 5-7 years) it is an amazing value. I stayed with a couple of friends in a 3 bedroom apartment for roughly $50USD per person/night. The apartments are huge and very nicely appointed. All of the modern conveniences you could ever want. Fully equipped kitchen, stove, refrigerator, dishwasher etc, clothes washer and dryer.

The Gleeb is located a short 5-10 minute walk to the city center. Great location - beautiful views.

I would stay here every visit!!!

Deco Backpackers: Deco Backpackers

Deco Backpackers is located near the Gondola and Luge station.

It has a garden with deck chair where you can enjoy the paranomic view of the town, Remarkables and Lake.

Avoid room #22 at all cost. We stayed there for 2nights. It is located just opposite the toilet where people walk in and out and if you are a light sleeper you will not get much sleep. The wall is thin so you can hear people talking just outside your room because it is where they put a bench for smoking area. We were glad that they could move us to another room the very next day.

You may book the tours directly from the reception as the prices are fixed and they could earn some commissions.

Free coffee every morning. They have a common kitchen but beware of the pity looking dog seeking for food. Free parking availabe along the street.

Frankly speaking, I would not recommend this place. There are many others to choose from.

Unique Quality: Lakefront view

The Stone House: Comfortable and friendly in Queenstown

We found this place through the Rough Guide and it was one of our best stays in NZ. The hosts were helpful and friendly and put drinks and snacks out for us each evening. Breakfasts were so big we never needed lunch. Easy walk downtown - bit more challenging up the hill again. Room was not massive but perfectly set up and a really comfortable bed.

Unique Quality: We loved meeting other guests over drinks and the owners were really laid back but ran the place professionally. Great hospitality and it was handy being so close to town. The place was built in the 1870s so it had a lovely old style feel to it.

Resort Lodge: Good but cramped

I stayed at The Resort Lodge on Henry street, just a 2 minute walk to town. Its a modern hostel with good facilities but the rooms are very cramped. A dorm is $25, they have 2 good kitchens, a tiny tv room, and internet room. Its not bad, but i ended up moving on to Hippo lodge.

Arthurs Point Top Ten Holiday Park: Camping in Queenstown...

The camping ground was 6km out of the town, down a road with no footpath, so you really need your own transport if you are planning on staying there.

As camping grounds go, it was ok - nothing flash, nothing too bad.

It had a kitchen but no pots were provided. It also had a tv.

The showers were really terrible - the pressure was so bad you had to stay in for ages to get the shampoo out of your hair. They had a hairdryer in the bathroom though.

The internet was really slow when I tried to use it too.

Queenstown Top 10 Holiday Park Creeksyde: Close to town and the lake.

Unique Quality: Just a few mins stroll to the Lake and to the centre of town. Very conveniently located. There is a range of accommodation from campsites to cabins, lodge rooms, to tourist flats. All very comfortable and reasonably priced. For a top tourist town, this has to be the place to stay, however you will need to book in advance.
If you don't try anyway in case they have had a cancellation.
Really nice setting with a lot of trees.

For backpackers...

As I was on a budget, I only stayed in hostels and it's sufficient. At the end of day, we all just want a clean bed to sleep.

The booming backpacker market has led to the establishment of a number of humble and inexpensive accommodations ranging from bunkrooms in the middle of town to converted older homes and motels scattered throughout the region.

Camping is a popular option for New Zealanders while campervan use by internationals visitiors is on the rise. Excellent facilities are provided in a number of camping grounds and campervan parks. For those who really like to rough it, Department of Conservation huts abound in nearby hill and forest areas and there are plenty of informal, low facility, camping permitted reserves.

These are the two hostels I stayed in when I visited Queenstown.

Both offer excellent value for the money, and are located close to the city and all it has to offer

Bungi Backpackers also has a free spa!

Dorms start at $NZ16 <---cheap so you have money to spend on the rest of Queenstown activities
