Right on the Water

For the most part, we tried our best to stay in locations where we were able to utilize our hotel stay points, however at the time, we did not have an option in Queenstown, so we went with the best available rate which turned out to be the Novotel. Originally, we were only booked for one room with two double beds, which turned out to be plenty of room for the four of us. Upon check-in we asked if there was any trouble with four instead of two, and they asked us to pay an additional $10 NZD per night for the towels, etc. We said fine to that and were on our way. The room we were assigned was located on the ground floor, and it had outside access to the walking trail that was located directly behind the hotel. From here, you could walk easily down to the local gardens, or out to the Marine Parade street where there were several kiosk type vendors as well as a couple sit down restaurants. Overall, Queenstown is a highly walkable city, so I would recommend making use of your legs from this hotel rather than trying to navigate with a car.
The bed and facilities were very comfortable, and I would definitely stay here again if our travels bring us back to NZ!

Close to downtown Queenstown

Unique Quality: Close to downtown, and close to the Lake. A great position to stay, while in Queenstown. Just a short walk to buses for all the activities around.

More about Novotel Queenstown Lakeside

Great Position

by TripAdvisor Member tam49

We stayed at the Novotel Gardens Queenstown as part of a ski packaged in September '06. The accommodation was typical Novotel; our room was comfortable, clean and of a decent size and service was excellent.
The position of the Novotel was a bonus, as the Queenstown mall and all the main bars and eateries are only a short 2 minute 'flat' stroll away (no hikes up hills !). At the same time, the Novotel is nicely tucked away next door to the Queenstown gardens (nice to walk around) and Lake Wakatipu is directly out the front.

We stayed a full week at the Novotel and didn't have any problems staying there the whole time. Recommend that if you’ve been out skiing for the day that you pre-book with reception a ½ hour block at the spa for the evening. We would definitely stay there again.

Great Hotel! Great Staff!

Just returned from an awesome vacation to several countries!
Queenstown was awesome! The Novotel Gardens is a great hotel. Centrally located downtown Queenstown. We had a lakeview room - worth the extra cost!
Upon our arrival, a concierge and staff member with spiked hair tried to make us as comfortable as possible. Asking about our stay, which activities we had planned, if we needed help booking anything else, etc...
In the morning, we had the buffet breakfast it was good. There was plenty to choose from.
The same staff member that greeted us the day before remembered our plans for the day and asked if we needed help with directions etc...
Only regret, wish we got the guy's name to send him a thank you!
Recommend this hotel all the way!
It's close to everything!

Great Location but with some negatives

by TripAdvisor Member Mez3000

The plusses:
- central location
- friendly staff
- food prices at snack bar and room service cometitively priced (and tasty)

The minuses:
- a dirty bathroom - especially the grouting around the tiles.
- the room looked run down. Not sure if this is because I paid a cheaper rate and got a poorer room.
- too many tour groups with the mentality that they are in their own houses so yelling and slamming of doors becomes acceptable. Granted, the hotel is not responsible for people's behaviour, but it detracted from the experience.

Overall, a good hotel to stay in for a couple of days, but not sure I'd want to spend a week here.

Great value for money

by TripAdvisor Member sptravel06

The Novotel Gardens was on of our favorite places to stay in New Zealand. Great location and the staff was extremly helpful. The conceirge took care of all of our tours and made great recommendations. One of our favorite tours was the Milford Sound/flight tour with Air Milford. It was definitly worth the money. At the Novotel we had 2 queen beds for approx $100 NZD/night that had a sliding glass door that took you out to the lake. The hotel is right next to the gardens which are absolutly beautiful. Queenstown was one of our favorite stops in New Zealand.

Great location

The Novotel Gardens is in a great location - with everything in Queenstown within minutes walking distance. The room, though slightly dated had everything you could want with the exception of drawers should you choose to unpack during your stay. Would highly recommend. Staff were helpful, and would recommend booking a 30 minute slot into the private spa (6 person spa room and bathroom) after a day skiing.
