Wanaka Lakeview Holiday Park is more than a campground. It is a site for caravans, campervans as well as tents. It also has tourist flats and studio appartments with various levels of service. It is part of the Kiwi chain which my mother and I used on or NZ road trip.
We chose self contained tourist flats/cabins with our own bathroom and kitchen facilities (in deference to my mother's age) but there are more basic units available with shared kitchen/bathroom facilities.
Clean spacious flat with comfortable beds and plenty of hot water.
There is a great view of the lake across the playing fields.
The city of Wanaka is relatively compact, and depending on the season, can be very busy. If it is during the holidays, the city center can be quite busy, congested and most lodgings are booked solid.
If the congestion and no vacancies of town turn you off, then only about 3km away, there is a decent holiday park.
There are backpackers rooms as well as camper parking spots.
There are community kitchen rooms, laundry facilities, coin-op internet, and other facilities that Top 10 Holiday Parks have.
This campground offers good facillities (laundry, big kitchen, BBQ). Youo can acctually see the lake and you can easly walk to town centre (maybe 1km). They have a couple of cabins and tourist flats as well.
I think it is the closest campgound to town
We spent 2 nights at the campervan park, the staff we very friendly and helpful. We didnt arrive til after 8pm and the staff we great. The park is situated about a 3 min drive from the town centre over looking Lake Wanaka and at the foot of the hills. A top spot.
The park has great facilities, including hot tub.
We met some great people also staying there and would recommend it to anyone doing the campervan trip on the south island.
view, kitchen/meals area.
Wanaka Bakpaka is located at the lake front with magnificiant view of the lake and mountains.
The dining room has windows with postcard views and it is a stones throw walk to the beautiful lake. It is away from the town hustle but a lakeside stroll to town.
I would rate this as the best BBH throughout my South Island trip.
You have a million dollar view yet you dont have to pay a premium for your stay here.
I would highly recommend Wanaka Backpaka to anyone who stays in Wanaka!
Look out for a book created by all tourist who would share with you their very own BBH experiences. I learnt alot from that book.
lakefront view from dinning hall
This is one of the Hostel which I have to book in advance as it's very often boked up especially in peak tourist season.
We booked the double room with le view which comes ensuite for NZ$64 :)
Apparently all of their rooms are ensuite.
They also provide towels....
Purple Cow turned out to be our most favourite hostel during our trip!
The place has this warm and cozy feeling
As I am a poor impoverished student, i tend to stay at places with the best value for money! Lakeside Holiday Park is hard to beat for this.. A cabin (3 - 16 beds) can be rented from as little as $16 per peson per night. These are basic but have heaters to keep you warm all night and the beds are comfy enough. Ammenities are communal and showers are unlimited! Best part about it is the closeness of the cabins to the ski-fields. Only 15mins drive!
Friendly place with clean dorms with attached bathroom.
Nice common areas with beautiful views towards the lake.
It was my "base camp" when I discover the ski area of this region (Treble Cone).
Very cosy with a nice fire place where you could chat with other local/international hosts about your snowy experience.
