All around this are we see deer farming - some of them have very impressive antlers. Apparently they scrape the "velvet" off it and use in a similar way to ginseng for added energy and potency. It is also said to be good against arthritis amongst other things.
Gore is known as the World Capital for Trout Fishing. I can't fish without any fishing gears, nor do I do any fishing. Moreover, the stopover at Gore was more to move some food into our tummies and catch our 40 winks.
But definitely, it is one of the more quiet towns with sleep being the key objective.
The town of Gore is an important rural centre for souther New Zeland. It is most famous for being the country music capital of NZ.
Places of note include
- The Eastern Arts Gallery - nicknamed the Goreggenhein
- "Old Hokoui" the local moonshine whiskey created during prohibition and has a museum dedicated to it
Events and activities:
- Fishing
- A variety of sport including ice hockey
- The country music awards
- And of course the moonshine festival
I suspect that this much excitiment is enough to drive anyone to drink.
