Walking around the town
by victorwkf
Tel Anau is a small town of about 2000 people and most of the accomodations, shopping, places of interest and restaurants are located along the main street. However, you can explore by walking around the town and you can get a map from your hotel.
Milford Sound

The drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound is probably one of the most beautiful routes on the globe. Definitively a must! And Milford Sound itself is great aswell. Went on the cruise and saw douzens of dolphins and some seals. The cheapest tour from Te Anau is with Atomic Shuttles for 100NZ$ including a 2 hr boat trip.
Lake Gunn
by Robmj
Lake Gunn is a beautiful spot. There is a loop track that takes 40 minutes return, although make sure you do the short detour to the outlet of Lake Gunn. When you get there, you will realise why you took this little excursion!. On the main track loop, you will pass pebbled beaches on the lake shore and thick forest dominated by massive red beech trees.
Te Anau... Relax!
by BurgerQueen
Te Anau is located at the beginning of the Fiordland region, and it is the perfect base camp when visiting Milford Sound, which is 2h-driving from here and does not offer many accommodation opportunities. Te Anau is a very nice small and quite city on the homonym lake, and it has been a real pleasure to stop there for a couple of nights.
