Glow Worm Cottages

Glow Worm Cottages is situated one street away from the main road of the town centre.

This is a very popular choice in Franz Josef as it receive very high ratings.
We were upgraded to a deluxe room which has TV, Video and kitchen in our room.

All rooms are heated and have you could have a very good view of the rainforest and glacier just stepping out of your room.

There is a spacious lounge, dining and kitchen. Free soup at 6pm daily, Free spa, and Free videos and board games. 24hr internet, card phone, pool table, SKY TV, bike hire, BBQ are also available.

Do approach the friendly host to book your helicopter, Heli-hike, glacier tours and you may get a discount.

Warm and Cozy

Glow Worm Cottage caters for backpacker and non backpacker.
They have motel unit for non backpacker (from NZ $95) and rooms with shared common room, kitchen and bathroom for backpackers.
We were staying in the double backpacker room (NZ$48 for two) with shared bathroom. The room was nice and spacious with window overlooking the garden and fully made up beds. They provide towels also
Bathroom is clean and so does the kitchen. They don't provide basic seasoning such as salt, pepper and cooking oil and the microwave didn't work when we stayed there

We enoyed our stay there as Glow worm isn't as crowded like other backpacker hostels in the area which caters for big group of backpackers travelling with kiwi experience and magic bus

One of many Franz Josef Hostels...

We had a good time here. The people were fun and the hostel was decent. They do have a hot tub in a little cabbana there if you are up for it. You would probably have to scrub down afterwards as I am sure its full of nasty things. The hostel is close to everything and just around the corner from the pub that has New Zealand's champion line dancer as a bartender. They also provide free homemade soup every evening at 6pm.
