Terrible customer service!!

Disgusting service received upon arrival from middle aged grey haired man at reception. i arrived with my elderly mother, we had booked a room in advance. When asked if we could see the room first, this man told us rudely NO we couldn't, and when we told him that we had had some bad experiences over the last few days with backpackers being filthy etc and we would still pay for the room even if it was not suitable, instead of him just showing us the room he rudely told us to go away and stay somewhere else. Leaving us stranded and having to look for alternative accomodation at the last moment .. unbelievable!
judging from other reviews, people seem to think that this place is nice...but going from my first impression on meeting this man at reception who lacks basic customer service skills and is just outright rude (should be sacked!) I would never recommend this place to anyone!

Greymouth's best backpacker hostel

This is the first backpacker hostel we stayed during out trip and turned out to be one of the best. The room was basic, we got 3 beds although we asked for double room but its' because we didn't reserve in advance. Room is clean and nicely decorated with souvenirs from all around the world. The living room was equipped with many brochures, maps, magazines about what you can do in the Grey District. The reception was very helpful with advice on where to go and what you can do. The bathroom is clean and they provide hairdryer inside. The kitchen was great also, they provide herbs, cooking oil etc and surprisingly give bread, butter and jam for free for breakfast in the morning

Unique Quality: They have sauna room which we can use for some fees and provide kayaking & bicycle for free
