Former priest's residence- this is cool- , now a relaxed, pretty small central hostel with all the usual facilities, including a very well-informed manager, a french named Claire who loves what she has been working with for the last 17 years. Apart from being kind and giving extra tips about the country which she fell in love, she helps tourists saving money, such as the weekly rate for the internet that nobody informed me before. For that I owe her $ 70! We feel cared at Greymouth YHA, not as one more guest. I had a nice single room for $50 after the unforgetable Transalpine train, which is really worth it for the experience she offers. Cardrona, facing the Wanaka lake, is her favourite ski field on the South Island and now it's mine too, much better than Mount Hutt, where I had a cold and windy day. It's got plenty of intermediate slopes which is excellent for somebody from a tropical country like me. Well, untill now I've slept in 6 YHA and Claire is more than the best manager. She is a travel agency. Some other YHA front desk were specially kind as well: Chris (YHA Christchurch) and Michelle/ Sheeren (YHA Wanaka).
Unique Quality: Former priest's residence. It's an experience!
