Pleasant Flat and Cameron Flat: DoC Campgrounds
There are a couple of campgrounds either side of the Pass. Both offer amazing views and a good wilderness feel to them.
Cameron Flat is on the East side of the Pass about 14kms from Makaroa.
Pleasant Flat is on the West side just before the climb to the pass begins.
Even if you are just passing through they are great places to get out and stretch your legs.
Both campgrounds have the water, toilets and Cameron Flat has BBQ pits. No showers. The price is minimal, at $4 per adult.
Payment is by the honor system, but there are often Park Rangers that come and check.
