Holitika Holiday Park: Hokitika
We ended up staying 1 night only after have booked 2. It just wasnt as nice as other parks. Bland and not many trees. Didnt feel homely. Other than that was OK, people were friendly.

Koru Cottage: Lovely Little Cottage in Hokitika
I found Koru Cottage online and it seemed to fit us perfectly. It was NZ$125 for two, plus $25 for each extra person, so that made NZ$150 (about US$92) for the 4 of us - quite an excellent deal. The cottage was roomy and very clean and pretty on the inside, and had a lovely little yard area. There was a living room with fireplace, full kitchen, large bathroom with shower, one bedroom with a queen bed and one with two twin beds. There was a large window at the back with a comfy bench seat beside it that I could see myself reading on for hours, if we'd been there longer! At night we had our electric blankets on so the beds were toasty when we climbed in. There were also electric heaters in addition to the fireplace.
We decided against it, but you could also request a continental breakfast for $10/person.
The owners also have another self-contained cottage and a B&B, so check their website http://www.larrysrest.co.nz to see what suits your group best.
Although we didn't use them, they also had goldpans and whitebait nets available, free of charge.
If you are going to be spending a night in Hokitika, I highly recommend Koru Cottage!
Unique Quality: I'd say the best unique quality here were the yummy home-baked goodies waiting for us as we walked in. There was a small tray with some cookies and cakes baked by Linda, that were very tasty! There was also a supply of tea, coffee & hot chocolate to accompany our afternoon snack.
Also, Paul came in soon after we arrived to have a short chat and start the fire in the fireplace for us, so it was nice to have a fire and meet the owner!

BirdSong Hostel: Hokitika's newest Hostel..
This hostel is just months old. It is located on the main road coming down from Greymouth. We were the only ones staying at the hostel. We were greeted by a very friendly dog and very kind owners. There is a huge common room with a dozen bean bag chairs and couches around a warm fire. Take advantage of this warmth as the hostel was bloody freezing at night!
Unique Quality: The couple that run the hostel are very friendly. The left us cookies on the counter before we went to bed and in the morning we had tea and crumpets waiting for us. The woman is an amazing artist and all of the artwork throughout the hostel is her own. All of the artwork is of very unique looking birds. We were really happy and comfortable here. It was one of the best hostels we stayed at on our trip.
