Town centre of Hokitika

There are great views to be had all around Hokitika: of Mt Cook from Blue Spur lodge, and you can see the mountains from just about everywhere. And don't forget the great view of the beach from the end of the main street. One of my fondest memories of Hokitika is of driving down the main street, with the snow capped mountains as a backdrop against the brilliant blue sky.

Hari Hari is a small dairy farming settlement located in between the Glaciers and Hokitika. Here's a place where there are more cows than sheeps. Another scenic stop before trodding along to the Glaciers.

Hokitika has some of the most magnificant architectures in Westland.

Drive around the small town and you can find many treasures.

There are many phototaking opportunities of the wonderful buildings.

"Great Beginning or End to a West Coast Adventure"

We did a loop around the South Island starting in Christchurch and heading directly over to the West Coast, so Hokitika was the perfect place to stop and rest before our lovely drive down the West Coast. I chose Hokitika because of its location and that I found a lovely little cottage that was a great deal and suited our 2 couples perfectly. Hokitika was a small, quaint community that we all enjoyed.

We made sure we took a drive down to the beach area at Hokitika before it got dark. There was alot of debris scattered around, but that didn't seem to make any difference to the two girls we saw having a blast making a sand castle. We also saw a man walking his dog, both who seemed to really be enjoying their evening walk.
