  • Set in the woods - Norfolk Island
    Set in the woods

The staff here were so friendly. Ma and Fiona really were so nice I feel bad about any criticism but, here goes.
We actually stayed in a cabin all to ourselves which was fine except there was a dank urine smell apparent, the toilet hadn't been cleaned correctly, one key flourescent light flickered and was thus useless and the bed linen was changed every Saturday - we arrived Monday.
Aside from the above, the facilities were good. There was a stove, fridge, iron, TV etc and plenty of room. It was an A-frame place that had originally been built as a banana sorting shed but had since been converted into two storey accommodation.

Set on its own amongst the forest it was very romantic, or would have been except for the off-putting odour.
Since I left a note about that it may well have been fixed by now.
If that was the case, I would recommend staying here.
Breakfast particularly was in an atmospheric setting in the old house with other guests and we quite looked forward to comparing notes with others over the morning meal.
I'm actually uncertain of the price because we got it as part of a package deal.

  • If you're looking for somewhere comfortable, convenient and safe, with all amenities covered without paying a fortune, Hibiscus has it covered. This is one of four properties that the Hibiscus group have on Norfolk and from what I saw at the Regal, you can't go wrong. I had a little self contained unit which consistsed of bedroom, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and lounge/dining room with TV, heating for chilly nights and a fan for when it's warm. There's also a BBQ, outdoor funiture and laundry for use by all guests.

A hire car is part of the package and makes getting around fuss free. There is a tennis court and swimming pool at one of the other Hibiscus properties which are available for all Hibiscus guests.

We recently stayed in Cumberland Villa at Cumberland Resort and Spa, and it was fabulous! We were met at the airport by the very friendly managers, and given a short tour of Burnt Pine on the way. We were then given our own minivan (free of charge!!) which was really great because we could travel around as a group (there were 7 of us).

The Villa is located at the rear of the complex, and it is very modern and spacious with 4 bedrooms and two living rooms. It has timber floors, leather couches, etc. We loved watching cable TV and movies on the large LCD TV. There were quite a few of us in our family staying there, but it never felt crowded and we never had to wait for a bathroom, as there were three separate bathrooms, and toilets. We enjoyed our very comfortable King bed with an en-suite bathroom.

We enjoyed a couple of great evenings in the the swim spa pool which was like bathwater it was so warm and relaxing! It gave us time to catch up as a family. We also had our own BBQ and private garden area, which we used quite a lot.

We can highly recommend Cumberland Villa (as well as the other cottages which we also looked at). It is central, clean, modern and very convenient, and has so many facilities. We didn't have time to try our all the facilities. Our own complaint was that our holiday was over after 7 days and we had to leave. We will be back!! Norfolk Island is a great holiday destination. Remember to try Emily Bay - what a unique place.

It has a heated swim spa pool (heated like bathwater), sauna, cable TV, movies, each cottage has its own BBQ, it is near the shops and cafes, and has a fabulous Italian restaurant right on site! It is about 5 minutes to the beach and the golf course. The accommodation also comes with its own free rental car. We had a free minivan as there were 7 of us.
