Bird Island
by kenmerk
Bird Island is a rocky islet just off the north east coast of Saipan, which serves as a wildlife sanctuary for birds. (Hence the name) There is a scenic lookout just south of the island, or alternately a hiking trail that leads down to the beach. From the beach you can wade out to the island, if you so desire...
Saipan Revealed
by Seasmoke
Having lived in Korea for almost 10 years now, Saipan has been my favorite island getaway. I've been to most famous beaches in the States and Southeast Asia, but for me, nothing compares to Micronesia.

"KingfisherGolfcourse"
...yeah, its a beaut of a golf course. If I played golf, this would be the place for it....a very splendid one with many great sights to distract you!
The 'retaining-pond' on the left there is made out of the CoalRock that they have all over this Island---and the 'ponds' mirror' all the tidal pools that one sees at LowTide.
And on the bottom right is a 'crack', gulch, canyon; where the ocean water rushes in at HighTide. Very cool to watch all that water 'guggle' and splash around in there while the 'reflecting/infinate-pond' sits in Tranquility.
The bit-of-white-splash you see there on the blackCoralRock is bigger than you might think... We are 'at least' 80 feet UP on that golf course!
The island in the background is Tinian. And the ocean was a rich, saturated 'cobalt-blue' the day we were there. Heaven...
"Here'sAnAnimalOfAdifferentNature..."
The islands Optomologist, and photographer extraordinare(!), putting sunglasses on the "old-man-of-the-sea"; stating, 'after hundreds of years, the old-guy can finally reduce the glare from the sea and SEE'!!
{humor is also a trait of Dr. Mark!}
"CaughtInTheVine-of-The-Jungle-Web..."
...this is what I remember most about Saipan----lots of Jungle and lots of tough vines to get through. I don't know how the Marines did it when they were here, but, I can say this, the way was tough going and they sure were a hardy crew!
"LookingUpAndOutAjapaneseBunkerOnMArineBeach..."
...my Dad was here during that time, and it was strange to be following in his footsteps. I wonder just how close he really got to what went on here.
"Here's the view from on top...."
...looking out over MArine Beach; could you visualize 500 ships out there; 200 planes flying all over the island; and 3000 of your comrades failing to make it back in just two days??
Hard for me to imagine and I'm standing right there!
"CommonFairyTern"
...love watching these guys swoop and glide in the sky above us. They dive pretty good too----and chase each other...
AND, soooooooo nice to see these "Peace" birds flying instead of all those war-time planes of yor....
"No'Check-In'Required!!:-)"
....15 hours by commercial flight to get here from Seattle. Incredible--longest flight for me yet. But once here, well worth the trip as I meet up with friends of 26 years and we check-out all the cool beaches around this Island....
"TheEndToAperfectlyFineDay...."
....can't find a better way to end the day here than to watch the sky filll with color reflecting off the lagoon and feeling the coolness in the air return. There is a ship out there on the horizon so that we have a bit of scale to the photo.
WithThat, I hope y'all enjoyed this SaipanDazePage:-)))
