West Plaza Downtown: Tired decor

I booked West Plaza by the Sea through booking.com but they were overbooked and wanted to move me to West a Plaza Malakal. This, for me, was too far out from where I wanted to be and so the compromise was West Plaza Downtown. The exterior of the hotel is quite grim to look at. The entrance is up a flight of stairs for which they have a baggage elevator but guests have to walk.

I had a room on the inside which means the window faces into the corridor. The room is very dimly lit as there is no natural light. There is a TV which has only one Japanese TV station, there is also a fridge and a safe. If you wish to use the safe you a required to pay a $50USD deposit for a key. The bathroom was tiny and the bottom of the bath was patched with fibre glass. I really thought hard about finding somewhere else to stay but in the end chose not to as I had already pre-paid and decided that I would rather spend my cash on diving. This hotel is very tired and in desperate need of renovation.

The positives are the location which is central to a number of restaurants, banks, shops etc and the staff as the hotel is run by a really wonderful lady who was so pleasant and helpful.

Would I stay here again? Only if I could not find an alternative. Would I recommend this hotel to fellow travellers? In one word - no.

The staff who are incredibly friendly and helpful.

DW Motel: Good clean accommodation

Stayed here for first part of my trip, mainly because of it's proximity to Fish 'n Fins Dive Centre. The motel is over three stories and set back from the road making it a peaceful location to stay.

The room was basic but spotless. There is wifi ( for which you have to buy a prepaid card) but no wifi access in the rooms, only downstairs in the reception and lounge area. There is no TV or anything in the room, which I found to be a welcome change. There is a fridge. The bed was comfortable but the pillows most decidedly were not; they were ridiculously hard with little tiny pellets in them that are designed to absorb any moisture and all in all, made for an uncomfortable night.

The bathroom was clean and there was ample hot water from a lovely powerful shower which is very welcome after a days diving. There was a large quantity of huge, brilliant white fluffy towels in the room. Overall, if you are looking for good basic accommodation then I would recommend staying here.

West Plaza Hotels: Comfortable stays for diving and/or business

There are five West Plaza Hotels in/near Koror. I stayed in the West Plaza Desekel.

The amenities are 3-star, but it is very clean and comfortable. The rooms are fairly plain, but if you are visiting Koror for the diving, then you will likely only be in the room to sleep and decoration does not matter.

The hotel is very central and within walking distance of many of the sites you would like to see. There is a supermarket on the first floor and many restaurants on the streets nearby, like the Rock Island Cafe for example.

Air Conditioned, Refrigerator, Airport Transfers (upon request), Complimentary Beach Towels, complimentary coffee in the lobby.

Palasia Hotel Palau: Centrally located

All the amenities of a 5 star hotel. We had a room with a balcony view overlooking the ocean and lagoon. The facility is immaculately clean and the structure is open allowing the trade winds to soothe the arid daytime temperatures. There is a nice sized restaurant and bar on the premises. Hotel pool is a welcome sight and offered relief from the unrelenting heat. In the cafe just off of the restaurant, they offer computer stations with Internet access for a minimal fee when you buy a cup of coffee.
Elevator accessible to all floors.
I would highly recommend this hotel.
