Sanbis Resort: Solomon Islands Ecolodge - Tropical Paradise
My wife and I spent several days at Sanbis resort in Gizo. It was amazing. It was started by a Swiss guy who married a local girl and its an ecolodge of a very high standard. They have a dive operation, their restaurant makes excellent meals. All in all, a great place to stay and to dive from in Gizo. I believe it was not affected by the earthquake/tsunami last year, but you'll want to contact them to find out (you can find information here: http://www.solomonwatersport.com).
An ecolodge sitting on its own island outside of Gizo. Each bungalow sits on the water and has amazing views across the lagoon to Kolombangra (a volcanic island). A place where you can have a private lobster dinner on the end of the dock while hearing the water lap below you.

Provincial Assembly Rest House: cheap accomodation in Buala, Santa Isabel
Spartan, but cheap. Whatever it lacks in amenities, however, it makes up for in friendly guests, who will probably be government workers or other people on official business. You may have the entire place to yourself. During my stay, there were only two of us.
The facilities here are old and rotting. I had to get help from the other guest to figure out how to work the place. Nonetheless, I have no real complaints. Despite its being rather run-down, this really is a wonderful place to get information and make friends.

Gizo Rekona Lodge: Excellent dorm accomodation in Gizo
This was a very nice place to relax for a few days. The owner, Ivan, is exceedingly helpful and he will go out of his way to ensure that you have a nice stay. In fact, it was he who arranged for me my trip to Vella Lavella Island (see my travel page for Vella Lavella). He's very business-savvy and seems to take great interest in ensuring that his guests are happy.
As with many other businesses in town, the lodge relies on a catchment tank for its plumbing needs. If it hasn't rained in a while, you'll be skipping showers involuntarily! Be sure to conserve--Gizo does in fact have water problems.
The lodge is primarily dorm-style, and it is built up on stilts above the ground. Underneath is a covered area where you can hand-wash your laundry even when the rain is pouring, which is a very frequent occurence! There's also a nice shared kitchen where you can meet and talk with other travelers, which may include both backpackers and local business travelers.

Solomon City Motel: dorm accomodation in Honiara
This was a perfectly acceptable place to stay for a few days in Honiara. The dorm rooms and shared facilities are basic, but if that's all you need, this will work just fine. Downstairs is a kitchen where everyone congregates in the evening while cooking meals and watcing television.

Island Motel: decent lodge in Honiara
This wasn't the greatest place to stay, but it was fine for a couple of nights. For about US$17 you get a basic room--nothing fancy, but after exploring town a little bit it seems pretty nice. The rooms are clean and you're lucky as I was, you'll have a fan in your room (very important if you've just arrived and your body hasn't yet acclimated.

Chester Rest House: Chester Rest House
The resthouse is run by the Melanesian Brothers. It is central to town. OIt is clean and new. There are great showers, and wonderful Brothers looking after you. Reasonably priced, compared to the hotels.
