More about Lagoon Beach Resort Apartments
high expectations and didn't dissapoint
Even before we arrived the staff went above and beyond replying to our emails with detailed information about the accomodation and weather in vila as we were nervous about hurricane season. The accomodation is excellent, clean rooms, beautiful views, small pool but the resort was quiet while we were there so we had it to ourselves. Altogether a nice relaxing stay although i did want to seriously harm the rooster that woke me up every morning! Can't recommend this place enough...
Friendly relaxing holiday
We stayed 10 days at Lagoon Beach and we cannot say enough about the friendly, helpful owner and her staff. Nothing was too much for any of them from taking us to Tanna or picking us some paw paws. In fact we felt almost like family and loved every minute of it. Sarah and Natalie were extremely helpful and accommodating, Alice and Glen made eating a joy (we loved Glen's caramel banana crepes) and George and the boys were happy to have a chat at any time. Even young Myel gave us a few laughs when he came to dinner.
Every thing we needed for a wonderful holiday was available in the apartments and it was extremely easy to get a bus to town when needed. The resort area is large and allows plenty of privacy. The setting is really beautiful.
Thank you so much Chris for your friendlyness and a big thank you to your absolutely wonderful group of staff. We hope to see you again soon.
Not as helpful as we were lead to believe
We had heard great things about this hotel and were especially excited to go after reading the reviews on trip advisor (which were a huge part of how we decided where to book). Unfortunately a week or so before we were due to travel our son was very ill and was admitted to hospital. We had read the great reviews saying how helpful the resort had been for people who needed to cancel at just a days notice due to weather so thought they would be very considerate of our situation - this was not the case. Although the hotel was very nice about it, they refused to refund any of the full payment we had needed to make at least a month in advance for 8 nights of accomodation. We understand that this is their policy and that is fine but thought it was important to update this website as we found that the reviews stating how their refund policy had some flexibility are clearly no longer correct .
We'll be back!
The experience was great!
We were actually in NZ for a week and the only way we could get back to Aus with our frequent flyer miles was via Vanuatu. All the other tickets were booked out, since it was school holiday. We had to Google to see where Port Vila was! Then we decided, what the heck, why not stay over in Vanuatu for 2 nights? (The only time we had left before the end of the school holiday) And we were not disappointed.
This family friendly resort is small, but has plenty going for it. We stayed in a 2 bedroomed apartment and the extra space was more than welcome. There were 2 TV's; one in the main bedroom and the other in the lounge downstairs. Both with DVD players. Normally this would not really count in my book, but since it rained a LOT while we were there, it came in really handy. The little onsite shop rents out DVD's for about AU$2 a go.
When it was not raining it was really hot and humid, so the ceiling fans and the aircon in the apartment were pure bliss.
Everything is new and sparkling clean inside the apartments, with a nice little patio and patio furniture as well. We had most of our meals at the resort, and the food was good. We even asked for variations on the menu sometimes (eg chicken in the caesar salad, or ice cream instead of cream in our cocktails) and nothing was too much trouble.
The staff were always smiling and helpful, from the owner, to the manager and the bar staff. They also like to share details about their culture which we found really interesting.
The resort has everything that you might need; a sparkling clean swimming pool (pool towels provided at the shop), one ping pong table, a volleyball court, a nice little beach with a few permanent umbrellas with barstools to enjoy leasurely sundowners, kayaks, a bar/cafe where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even though the apartments are self- catering, we found the prices at the bar and cafe very reasonable, so we used them instead. (The onsite shop is sparsely supplied, do not assume you will get everything you need there. If you are serious about the self catering part, you will need to go to the shop on the corner; turn left when you leave the driveway and it's about 100m down the road, alternatively go to Port Vila for more serious gorcery shopping)
We did not have the time to do any touristy stuff (eg daytrips, etc, )but at reception there are lots of brochures about any trip that might tickle your fancy.
We arranged for a private taxi to pick us up at 5.30am on our last day (The Sydney flight leaves at 7am) and when he failed to arrive, we called around to other taxi operators, only to be met by various answering machines. A desperate call was made to the manager Sarah and 5 minutes later her husband (who isn't a member of the staff!) was at our door to take us to the airport. This level of service went way beyond the expected.
The fact that it is a bit of a drive outside Port Vila, means that the rates are lower than what you pay for similar accommodation in town. This is probably the best value for money in Vanuatu. Do keep in mind that you will have to fork out money for the bus (cheap, about $1-$2 per person) or a taxi (a lot more expensive). Next time we will rent a vehicle (not as expensve as you might think), which will get us into Port Vila for shopping and dining out once or twice, and also around the island for exploring and sightseeing.
Thank you Lagoon Beach Resort! We will be back.
Mad if you don't!.....
I have travelled much of the world but really never found anywhere so relaxing and accomodating as Lagoon Beach Resort.
The accomodation is EXACTLY as described and photographed, there are no hidden discrepencies. A kitchen just like home. The beds are supremely comfortable and everything in the apartment works as it should. So refreshing!
The greatest asset this resort has is it's staff. From the owner to the gardeners all have a friendly 'long lost relative' attitude to guests.
The food is good, fresh and well presented in the Nakamal or in your unit if you prefer (they do not charge for room service, you pay the same price as on the menu at the Nakamal!) It is slightly out of town but I never had any problem with transport, 100 vatu each passenger on a bus and 600-800 in a taxi.
George is wonderful and will accomodate you transport needs as required.
The pool is very clean, the gardens are just lovely and the Melanesian Feast Night is NOT to be missed.
Currnetly being built are some one bedroom apartments for couples etc. which mat suit older people (no stairs) or honeymooners.
The building work is unobtrusive and noise is minimal.
A wedding ceremony whilst we were there confirmed my opinion that the staff here are 100% commited to guest satisfaction, a beautiful service right on the lagoon was flawless in it's organisation.
Like I said...Mad if you don't.......stay at this resort!
We spent our first 3 nights here and wished we could have stayed for longer.
The units are just fantastic, everything that you need and just with the right little touches.
Great for young children and although our son didn't utilise the kids club everyone ranted about the wonderful kids club activiites
The friendly atmosphere is soaked up quickly.
Been out of town enable us to get the buses into town which you just walk out in the street and for $1 get into town. The local people are so keen to have a chat and mopre than willing to talk about their town and country.
Our only little gripe is the lack of lounges around the pool. There was only 1.
Staff so friendly and genuine, we just loved our introduction to Vanuatu there
We stayed here for 8 days in November 07. The apartment was great, very clean, better than we had hoped for. The grounds, pool, cafe and beach were all beautiful. Note the beach is not a good swimming one, but just lie on a lounger and jump in the pool when you need to. The staff were also fantastic. The cafe did tasty food, although we got in supplies and cooked our own mostly. If you take your meat and vege over you can even use their bbq to cook it and take back to apartment and dine on your patio dining table. This may have changed since we went but ask anyway. Pop out to the road and flag down a minibus to get into town, walk is 25mins. Staff arranged our day trip on a boat, forget name, but it is a popular one and was brilliant day. I'd recommend this place to anyone, in terms of value for money it is unbeatable.
We had a lovely time at Lagoon Beach Resort Apartments and the staff is incredibly helpful – as the other reviewers have said. The rooms are spotless clean and have everything you need from an apron to an umbrella. The kitchen has plenty of utensils, the bathroom plenty of towels. No box of tissues though, but honestly the weather in Vanuatu is so warm (I’m from Canberra) that you hardly need them.
The man made beach is picture perfect. Get your lunch bought down to the lagoon side and enjoy your toasted sandwiches while watching the tiny fish (then give them a crust). Read in the hammocks and dip in the pool. Then kayak on the lagoon, it’s easy to get the hang of.
I especially liked the Melanesian night and the string band. Try the little marinated sea snails and the banana cake they are yummy.
I do like Lagoon Beach Resort but I am a timid traveller and although Vanuatu people are super friendly, being out of town was a bit stressful in flashes. If you are a first time traveller give yourself a few days to get used to being in a new country – don’t feel like you have to go on tours straight away as you’ll get flustered. Get the office to ask George or Mark (onsite drivers) take you places if you worry about the buses, it is more expensive, but worth it if your not a confident person.
They are building more accommodation blocks at the moment (May 08) so during the weekdays the grinding and hammering etc can get a bit tiring, but it’ll all be over soon. If you are sensitive to noise though just ask for a room away from the building end of the resort.
Another thing - we never worked out how to walk to La Lagoon from Lagoon Beach Resort. Tried a couple of times, but no luck, even though they look close enough together. I think the free maps are out of date? Give it a go and if you do find the way put it in a review and I'll try it next time we visit as we will go back if we ever get another chance.
Tank-yu Tumas for reading and enjoy your holiday.
not for us
We booked on the basis of the reviews in TripAdvisor, but the car to the resort that was booked was not at the airport. We waited then took a taxi. The resort office was closed, so took a while to get into the vila. The milk we requested was in the fridge. There are no curtains at the back of the ground floor which we didn't like. The resort is also some way away from restaurants and shops, and the nearest shop seemed to charge what they liked. We would prefer a resort closer to Port Vila, although the local busses only charge Vuv100pp for anywhere in Port Villa.
My girlfriends and I were looking to get away for a week to relax and have fun. This was the perfect place. From the moment we arrived until we left all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Mark our driver met us at the airport on time and took us directly to our appartment. Nathalie from reception met at us our appartment with drinks in hand. She was very funny and informative all about the appartments, Port Villa and other activities. She also took us out at night to Kava Bars and night clubs. She totally went out of her way to help us, something no other place in the world had offered.
The apparments were very clean and large. We ate often at the restaurant on site and made full use of the room service. We liked that the appartments were a short drive away from the Port Villa shops. We felt like we could totally relax and had a large area to run around. If we wanted to go to town it was a very short bus ride any only 100vht - $1.20.
We did the all day cruise with some snorkeling, and then massages, horse rides and the tradition feast. All loads of fun.
As I have mentioned the staff were amazing. They all knew who we were. Chris, the owner of the place came and spoke to us about our stay which we thought showed how much she cared about her guests.
Eddie, Nathalie and Launa excelled at customer service, a big thank you to them.
We had an amazing week and will be back!
