A Great Resort

We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are clean - but youll have to put up with re-runs of Home and Away on TV!

You couldnt fault the service and the food in the restuarant was amazing! I would definately recommend this as a place to stay - and the bungalows over the water are incredible!

Unique Quality: The pool is the biggest in Port Villa> The lagoon is great for swimming too, with bright coloured star fish and fish...

More about Le Meridien Hotel

Casino,

by DONBURGESS about Le Meridien Port Vila Resort & Casino,

Le Meridien Port Vila Resort and Casino, overlooking Erakor Lagoon and its own private island, is home to Port Vila's only International casino. Here we spent a great night out playing pacific poker, the dealer taught us how to play and it was a lot of fun, in the end we lost out money but it was a great fun way to spend the evening, the staff at the casio all looked after us very well and nothing was a hassle, even the manager found time to share a cold beer with us. Dress code is just neat causal

A fantastic piece of paradise

What a great venue!

by aami80 about Le Meridian

A beautiful restaurant and a gorgeous hotel. This place is definitely worth a visit. You arrive out the front of the hotel and a man dressed in traditional Vanuatu costume opens your car door for you. The lobby is spectacular, and you can feel free to wander around a bit before you head to the restaurant. We walked down the 'spider-web' bridge which spans the prettily lit lagoon (we were there at night) to pathways on the other side. Very sweet and romantic! Then we went back over the lagoon and down to the restaurant which is located on a balcony like structure which looks down over the lagoon. I don't see how you could not like it! We had the seafood, as we felt that it would probably be a bit safer at a large hotel. The food was nice, but it's the location that makes this restaurant.

Le Meridian Resort

by Thaljen

We are thinking of splashing out and staying at the Le Meridian Resort in Port Vila for a few days at the end of our holiday. Unfortunately, Le Lagon is booked out.

Have heard negative reports about the resort - it's rundown, has smelly rooms - some overlook a noisy carpark, the beach isn't very nice, and the service is quite bad.

Has anyone been there who can comment on this cos it looks lovely and upmarket but as we all know looks can be deceiving.

Thanks
T

We didn't stay at Le Meridian when we were in Vila in April/May 2004 but we did go down there for a show and to check out the beach etc. It didn't look anywhere near as new and fresh as our 'resort' (Mangoes) but it was fine otherwise. The beach is beautiful & clean, the pools looked beautiful, the little island with the bungalows, lots of watersports & things to do, the restaurant had great food, lobby was well kept. You can see some photos around the resort on my Vanuatu, Efate and Port Vila pages if you're interested.

Just beware that the websites always show the nicest and newest parts of resorts in Vanuatu, many of the buildings are a little run down but it's part of Vanuatu...it's such a gorgeous country that these things shouldn't matter. :) And all the people we met everywhere in Vanuatu were wonderful, particularly the Ni-Vanuatu people. :)

Just got back from Vanuatu. Watch out for Barry driving the "Blue Vergin" mini van. He definitely knows how to rip off the tourists charging us $180 for a 15km. journey.

If you check out www.tripadvisor.com you'll see more negative views on the Meridien and i'd have to agree. I stayed at Iririki and i went past the Meridian and it looks more run down than anything... and we spoke to people that had stayed there and they said it wasn't great.
I recommend Iririki or Mangoes, or a new one called Sunset Bungalows.

Stayed there in June, the rooms were ok one pool was out of action 2 cocktails of the day $30 Australian and big discussion over the bill at the end we had been quoted one rate and they tried to charge us another their helpful suggestion was to pay now and sort it out later, we did sort it out then but took a bit of effort
