I had a villa on the island...
by ianrmillard
I had a villa on the island and would recommend villa rental first [pic: vacation villas at East Shoal Bay], but I loved the North African architecture of the Sonesta resort hotel [pictured below]...seems a good place to stay. ...)
An excellent budget option would be the Harbor Lights 'efficiency apartments' at Island Harbour,
run by a well-organized American family. Stayed there my first week on the island. About $80 a day (that's budget for Anguilla...). Harbor Lights is recommended for value, location, view and friendly atmosphere. Staying there you can meet the kind of Americans (while I was there, ranging from an American aircraft carrier commander to a Pennsylvania deli owner, with their wives) who make you realize 'ugly Americans' are only half, or less, of the story...These Americans were all great people with whom to share a rum punch or three.
My own place on Anguilla..St. Martin in the distance
Hurricane shutters in place...
Sonesta: maybe $300 (? only a guess)
Harbour Lights: $80 upward (?..better check)
Shoal Bay, Anguilla - a must see Caribbean beach!
by JonnyVT
We only had a day trip to Shoal Bay and all we did was enjoy this phenomenal beach. The water is crystal clear and warm as if you were in the tub. This beach is a must see if you are traveling in the Caribbean.
We took the ferry from St Martin (Marigot) to Anguilla. Cost was $30 per person. We then took a taxi directly to Shoal Bay ($16 return) as we wanted to enjoy the turquoise water and silky smooth sand. The sand was like icing sugar and the sea beautiful shades of blue and warm too. There were lots of colorful fish and the longer you hovered over the reefs the more fish would appear. The food was good about $18 for a lobster salad and $2 a beer. We will return and next time stay a few nights!.
Spend Some Time in Paradise

"Stay Where The Sand Meets The Sea"
Shoal Bay Villas situated right on the beach at Shoal Bay East is a medium expensive place to stay but if you get a room with a balcony overlooking the sea then it's well worth it.
Wake up to the beautiful turquoise water lapping gently 20 metres from your room. Great to have a refreshing swim before breakfast when you can have the whole beach and the sea to yourself.
Take lots of reading matter, (or if its your first time on the island - get a car and go off exploring) and just unwind under the beach shades knowing that a cold beer is just a short walk away at Uncle Ernies.
"Shoal Bay Villas"
Accommodation is spread around the pool and overlookng the beach. 31 rooms are suitably furnished for a beach holiday and are comfortable with en-suite facilities.
"An Early Morning Start"
walking along the beach at 8am. No one else about for miles.
