BEAUTIFUL BEACHFRONT RESORT

by LoriPori about HOLIDAY INN SUNSPREE RESORT ARUBA

Hans and I checked out the HOLIDAY INN SUNSPREE RESORT ARUBA by reading reviews and comments by other VT'ers who stayed here. Overall the reviews were good so we went ahead and booked our one-week, all-inclusive vacation with Sunquest Tours.
Located in Aruba's Palm Beach area, ( on the best beach in my opinion ), 20 minutes from the airport and a 10 minute drive to Oranjestaad, The Holiday Inn offers 600 rooms, in three Towers - Bonaire - Curacao & Aruba. We were in Curacao Tower, Room 7232. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with mini-fridge, balcony, cable TV, King-size bed ( rooms with 2 double beds also offered ), three-piece bath, in room safe ( no charge ), iron & ironing board, coffee maker ( but no supplies ). We had a nice partial view of the beach from our balcony.

All-Inclusive -good price

by MoNewcamp about Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort Aruba

Check in and check out was smooth, fast and easy.

All-Inclusive:

They give you wrist bands but you still have to put your room number and sign a check for every food or drink order.

Buffet: Needs a little updating, and entrance and exit door would be a nice addition. Clean & bright. Staff was friendly.
Breakfast: you can ask your waiter/waitress to have eggs made to order rather than from the buffet.
Lunch: Only went once and had a salad.
Dinner: Italian Night was good, made to order pasta bar, lots of other items to choose from. Was told by others in out group the Seafood night and prime rib night was also good.
Lunch pool/ocean side: Fried beer battered Grouper or Grilled Turkey Ribs, Wings, Nachos, Burgers, Pizzas, Hotdog
Room service not included-cost extra
casino right in hotel

Huts on the beach: You must get in line EARLY to reserve a HUT for the day. (line is at the beach towel hut) Beach area is narrow, but nice to be close to the water and bar area.

Good value, great beach

by Laumas about Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort

Other websites' reviews of this Hotel are not kind. This Hotel by no means is in the top catagory of Hotels in Aruba. If you need a fabulous room with Marble bath, staff falling all over you to provide service, great food or drink, top entertainment, then don't stay at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. It is, remember, a Holiday Inn.

In fact, the rooms are clean, comfortable and newly remodeled. Ours had a refrigerator, good air conditioning, comfortable bed. The shower had cold and room-temp temperatures (no hot). We also had an outdoor porch which you could see the water and most of Aruba in the distance (we were on the 7th floor). TV, if your so inclined, has most of what you would get on American cable, including a few HBO options.

The Casino is average for Aruba, and currently is only one of two with poker tables. The sports book is mostly closed, and rather a dull area.

They have some stores, and an internet access room, where you can check e-mail, surf for $.30/min.

The Hotel is right on the best beach, which is different than the "posh" properties around, most which have hundreds of yards of pools, restaurants and other obtructions between the beach and your room. This is the best feature of this hotel.

The staff is friendly, helpful, but can be slow and ineffective in problem resolution. You need patience.

The food is mediocre, but very edible. I suggest that you do not get the all-inclusive, because there are a lot of great restuarants in Aruba.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel every two years since 2000. Since that time, they have been in constant construction (improvements), and this year (Jan 2006) has been no different. The improvements are now starting to show, however, and in my book has moved this Hotel up up star or two. Good beach

Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort

by sayville about Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort

Prior to going we had heard both good and bad about the Holiday Inn. We found it to be fine. Nothing fancy but it was clean and staff was friendly. Its not the Hyatt or Mariott but you're also not paying as much. We did the all inclusive plan. Im still not sure if that was the cheapest way to go. We really dont drink so we probably broke even.
The resort had an exercise room that my daughter used daily.
They only let you sign out 1 beach towel and if you wanted a float you had to pay to use it for the day. I think it was $3 a day. Honestly, the float should have been free.
Like most of the resorts in the area, people went out at 6am to save a shade hut. We didnt save one but really didnt need it as we like the sun and there was always a nice breeze.
There really isnt much at the resort as far as entertainment. They did have some activities during the day for adults and children. Twice a week they showed a movie under the stars.

there are 3 main resturants to eat at. One was the buffet for all three meals. The food was ok but usually not hot. There was also The Seabreeze, an outdoor resturant with a menu. I liked this resturant. The third resturant required reservations. To make the reservation you had to stand on line about 3pm on the day you plannned to eat there. They started taking reservatons about 3:30pm. The service here was slow. Since my daughter doesnt eat most that is on the menu we only ate here once. The pool was small. They had 2 sections: one side for kids, one side for adults. Of course there are always kids who end up in the adult pool and hot tubs.

The beach was nice. I really think our beach was nicer than some of the other beaches. No water sports. If you walked about 10 mins towards the Mariott the Fishermans Hut is there and you can rent wind surfers, kite surfers etc as well as take lessons. There are also stands all along the beach for jet skis, banana rides and other motorized sports.

I dont recall the price. The resort has both inclusive and non inclusive packages.

We had a great ocean view from our room. I think we got a better view as we are Holiday Inn priority members.

Great value - good getaway for a week

by A TripAdvisor Member

Just got back from Holiday Inn Aruba - Hotel was fine, and staff were generally helpful and friendly. The buffets - breakfast , lunch and dinner were good. The Miramar restaurant was very good, but limited menu, so 3 times in the week was enough. The outside bar and grill (Seabreeze)was open for lunch and the food was palatable but not good.
Hotel has a nice beach, pool and lots of lounge chairs, but if you want a certain location you need to get out early and get your towel on the chairs at the spot you want. Too many people claim good spots and hold them for the whole day but only use them fopr a few hours. The all inclusive drinks are local, but they will mix pina colladas daquiris etc. Real Scotch and Cdn whisky is available at an extra cost. Bottom line - at the price we would go again.

Great Time at Sunspree

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort and were very satisfied with our stay. It is amazing, the disparity between the comments/reviews people write about the same hotel properties. Overall, we were totally satisfied with our experience and would recommend staying there to anyone. I believe the people who are dis-satisfied with this property/staff are the same people who would complain about paying taxes after having won the lotto. The staff was very friendly and cooperative, and generally fun to be around. The hotel, like any other property, has its issues, but that should be expected. The location is right in the middle of the action on the beach. We purchased the all-inclusive package, which we definitely would recommend. As far as Aruba goes, what a beautiful island. The contrast between the "resort" side and the "un-developed" side is amazing. We took the Jeep tour of the island, which is absolutely worth your time. I can't imagine better weather conditions anywhere and the water on the resort side of the island is perfect for any type of activity. We prefer to visit places we have never been before, but this is an island we would visit again.
