More about Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort
More European style Hotel
We will be staying at the Amsterdam Manor Hotel on Eagle beach this coming Easter. (See website link below)
The hotel pitches itself as "A small hideaway with all the luxuries of a large resort, located on a premier beach, Eagle Beach. Warm, friendly personalized service, fine facilities and amenities create an unforgettable vacation".
The hotel was designed by a famous Dutch Architect named Jan Hubert. Several of his designs can still be viewed around the island.
We have booked a one-bed suite, for myself, BB, the Small Person and the Sister. (2 Beds in bedroom, and a double sofa bed in lounge). The rooms come with kitchenette and dining table.
In high season (Dec-end March) - this hotel is not that cheap, but looks perfectly located for our needs. (Clean, not too 'full on' in the way of cheesy entertainment and on Eagle beach).
I will let you know our experiences as soon as we're back! Smaller, more European Hotel.

Live and Direct from The Amsterdam Manor, Aruba
Well, we've been here 4 days now. The hotel is clean, on the very beautiful Eagle beach & you can admire pelicans diving while lazing on a sunbed sipping a cocktail. The beach is couple of mins at most from the furthest rooms (across a small rd but no problem). Staff definitely seem more naturally friendly than some other resorts along the coast. A more eclectic mix of guests who were up for a chat at at Filos bar in the evening.
Restaurants in Aruba are pretty pricey & average (reminds me of USA food, OK if you want to eat steak or weirdly cooked shrimp for you entire stay) but Mangos restaurant was reasonable in comparison. KB ate a good steak & the 'catch of the day' was fresh.
Reception were friendly. They ordered cabs for us to restaurants & airport and were efficient & helpful.
Breakfast to the room - Don't go there, it is only a short stroll to the restaurant. Room service breakfast is a total waste of money & Sund. morning was terrible. It served us right for being too lazy to walk a few yards to Mangos.
First general impressions of hotel :
Generally very clean, but room not made up for 4 people (they knew we had 4 in our party) had to order extra sheets .
Excellent position for a quiet time & out of the high rise (High Rise, don't go there!)
Beach very good, uncrowded etc plenty of sunbeds (without matresses) beach bar & just a few boat trips. There is also a fresh water water cooler (free) so no need to carry any.
Cocktails at beach bar are weak and ready mix a la USA, you'd have to drink at least 3 to notice them. Suggest ordering your usual mix there.
Water in rooms was bad but drinking water in Aruba is the best in the world & is provided at the bars etc.
Internet access to two computers - free.
This is a very relaxed hotel & much nicer than others we looked at in the High Rise area.
All in all, we think we made the right choice. Small pool (but who needs a pool when you have a beach like that on your doorstep).
Friendly and helpful staff.
(A special mention to the lovely Venezuelan restaurant manager).
The hotel is much more European than most.
Don't stay there if you're looking for Bingo, Dunkin' Doughnuts and Cheesy entertainment.
Do stay there if you want a chilled out vibe right by a beautiful beach.
Tip ; Get up early, take a stroll and watch the birds at dawn when it's not too hot. Little yellow birds nest in the trees at the Amsterdam Manor & Pelicans dive on the shore - Lovely.
The Legendary Filo!
We had read about the legendary Filo online before our trip. He certainly lived up to his reputation of the friendliest barman around. (and yes, his jokes are awful !)
He mixes some fabulous drinks, especially good were his vodka martini's.
He gets everyone talking and is always happy and smiling.
Sister no 1 and I, were always late to arrive at Filo's bar (typical Venezuelanos !) and he always hung on just that extra bit, to serve us a drink before he locked up (they shut pretty early there). He would serve us when we wanted, leaving us to sit at our leisure when he had wandered off home to bed; always with the words 'I'll be back' !
Cheers Filo :-) Filos drinks are better than most. He does not make any ready mix cocktails, preferring to mix his own to your taste and always with a cheeky smile :-)
Warning : Ladies, do not let your husbands 'pop in for a quick beer' at Filo's bar at 4pm in the afternoon, I shall say no more !
Mango Juice Rocks !
The Small Person developed an addiction to fresh mango juice. The one she liked the best, was at Mangos bar at the Amsterdam Manor. She also took to ordering mango icecreams & smoothies all over the island.
Highly recommended for small people all over the world.
loved the area and the two bedroom unit
Amsterdam manor was great, we went for a week in April of 2004, we stayed in a two bed room unit, was great as we was there with our son and my inlaws, we had a nice balcony, the bed rooms were a nice size. it was very nice and the service was nice. The beach was also great and wasnt busy. I would stay there again.
Our Dream Spot
Our first trip to Aruba was in 1989 where we stayed in the Americana in the High Rise area of Palm Beach. On one of tours of the Island we visited the Amsterdam Manor on Eagle Beach and decided if we ever get the chance to come back to Aruba it would be to the Amsterdam Manor because it was a smaller, quaint, European style Hotel.
It was a couple of years later before we could go back to Aruba. We remembered how much we were impressed with the Amsterdam Manor and booked it through our travel agent. From the very first moment when we arrived we knew we made the right choice. The Staff were so warm and friendly and we felt as if we had been there before. It wasn't until half way through our stay we realized the gentleman who would stop and talk to us and ask if everything was OK is the Manager. Everyone is hands-on, including the ladies that look after our room.
The accommodations are very clean and comfortable. We usually get to stay in a one-bedroom efficiency with a covered patio, which over looks the ocean and pool. When I get up in the morning I put the coffee on, pick up the free local newspapers, and sit out on the patio and start another wonderful day in Paradise. The management is constantly upgrading the facilities and new offerings such as free Internet service and Wi-Fi.
After breakfast, if we were not going touring of Aruba, we would amble over to the beach. Because their beach area is not crowded we could always find an umbrella and enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If we did decide to go to town, or other beaches, there are bus stops right out front.
I think you will now understand why we have kept coming back to the Amsterdam Manor so often. It is the place you want to come back to for a true friendly Aruban experience with a touch of the Dutch influence.
My family and I spent a week in December 2003 and New Year 's Eve in Aruba. We loved it! Amsterdam Manor was a quaint place. Our room was clean and with adequate space. What stood out however was the warmth and friendliness of every staff who went out of their way to accomodate and help the guests. To illustrate a highlight...as we were leaving for the airport on New Year's day, we realized that our rental jeep had a flat tire! As we were in a hurry and there was no taxi available, the manager instructed the guard (Nicholas, thank you) to take us to the airport. We made it.
You have to cross the street to be at the beach, but it really is not a hassle. What is a hassle is the noise of the motor rides. I wished they would regulate those noise polluters. For some peace and quiet, we drove to Baby Beach, which is also a nice place to snorkel and ideal for children.
If you intend to explore the island, rent a jeep.
Amsterdam Manor did not offer formal activities for children( we did not mind since our child did not wish for it). If this is something you are looking for, the bigger hotels offer this and you could sign-up for a fee.(even if you are not their hotel guest)
The Atlantis submarine ride is worth the price.
If you are planning for a boat/snorkeling tour, go for the Jolly Pirates. The staff were lively bunch and we had fun!
Couldn't have been better, can't wait to return!!
My husband and I had the opportunity to travel for our anniversary this year and after much research decided to try the Amsterdam Manor. We are so glad we did!! The resort was beautiful. The beach is absolutely gorgeous. We had a one bedroom suite, and it was awesome. Very roomy. The staff was outstanding. All we had to do was mention that we were interested in an activity and they arranged it. We mentioned that it was our anniversary when asking for recommendations for a restaurant and we returned to our room to find chilled champagne. We can't wait to return. The trip was so relaxing. We will visit again hopefully very soon!!!
We arrived back on 11 October after a fantastic two weeks honeymoon at The Amsterdam Manor. We chose the hotel due to price and the excellent reviews that we had read on Trip Adviser, we are glad that we did. From the moment that we arrived we were greeted with smiles and warm welcomes of how glad the staff were that we had come to their island to celebrate our honeymoon. This was enough to start the honeymoon off to a great start. We had a lovely room, we booked a standard studio and were upgraded to a superior studio with Jacuzzi and sea view. The Bathroom was massive with two sinks so we both had one each!
Filo the bar man was excellent with a very good sense of humour and jokes!! Mango's cocktail was the best.
The food at Mango's restaurant was nice but there are so many other excellent restaurants on the island that it would be a waste to eat anywhere more than the once. For excellent seafood I would recommend Broccadeer. Carlos and Charlies was also very nice for Mexican food and on a saturday it is free drinks for ladies, although it does get VERY packed with the locals. If you like Indian food the one and only Indian restaurant, Taj Mahal, is located in the town but is excellent and very good value.
As we were on our honeymoon we did not go on a lot of trips around the island but did do a catamaran boat trip which was fantastic, we went snorkelling round the island and the lunch was prepared by The Dome restaurant so was very nice.
We found the whole experience of Aruba amazing and are planning on visiting again next year and will definitely be staying at The Amsterdam Manor.
