More about Butterfly Beach Hotel

Very nice beach location, away from the crowds

by amcclean about Butterfly Beach

It has quite reasonably priced self catering accommodation, is just down the road from the nightlife in St Lawrence Gap and Bridgetown, has a supermarket 10 mins walk away, and a gorgeous white sand beach which is usually not busy at all. The sea is a little rough (the Mistral UKSA school is next door and you will see all the windsurf students out to sea) but it's fun and the wind stops you getting too hot on the beach! See above!

Butterfly Beach was terrible, I cannot believe the good reviews.

I travel the Caribbean 30-40 times/year for business. This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed in in any country in recent years.

I selected this hotel based on a misleading web advert. My room was not clean (bathroom, floor), bedspread was dusty and stained - perhaps never cleaned. Sheets were stained and had hair on them at check-in (not mine).
Towels were not all changed and room was not cleaned at all daily (bed made and some new towels hung, but floor not cleaned, floor mats are filthy, waste baskets not cleaned, dirty dishes left etc.

Rooms have open louvers and jalousies that do not close, charming, but letting in loud ambient noises all night, as well as moisture and heat. Also some security guards do wake-up calls by knocking and calling out to guests, waking others at early hours. It was explained that these guards do not know how to use the phones properly.

Food was mediocre at best, some unedible. Pork chop dinner tasted good but had more fat than meat. Same for Thursday night "Beach BBQ" rib dinner. The restaurant manager acknowledged this and said he "should change his supplier". Others complained as well.

Power went out in the "new room block" where I stayed (not really new, just newer) and they did not know how to fix it. It does that often I was told.

Hot water is from solar source - so no hot water during 3 of the the 4 nights I stayed as it was overcast = cold showers.

The staff was friendly, but that was the only positive part of my experience. I recommend against staying at Butterfly Beach despite a nice beachfront location, unless you have already low expectations of room quality, service and food quality.

"The Best of Barbados

by A TripAdvisor Member

If you have never been to Barbados, you do not know what you are missing. It is amazing!

I received an e-mail with "The Best of Barbados" vacation package. I didn't even know where that was, but it sounded pretty interesting. I called my sister-in-law and wanted to know if they would like to vacation with us. We went and looked on the globe to see exactly where we were going. We set up the vacation for December. Cold here in Wisconsin and beautiful in Barbados!

From the time we landed at the airport, the taxi ride and then our home for the next eight days at Butterfly Beach Hotel, everything was just unbelievable. The hotel was right on the southwest beach of Barbados - white sand beaches, clear blue water and an ocean breeze. The employees of Butterfly Beach were always helpful, informative, interesting and would do anything for you. We learned a lot about the island from them and they were very interested in our life back in Wisconsin. They asked about our winters and the snow. They don't have to deal with too much snow - with it being 82 degrees during the day and 80 in the evening. They had a great little restaurant and lounge, with specialty nights and karaoke.

We did a few of the tourist things like parasailing, riding in the submarine, sight-seeing and of course shopping, but most the time we just wanted to be at the hotel on the beach. The taxi drivers were also wonderful. They took us to a shopping center that a lot of people didn't know about. It had the cutest shops and wasn't as busy as Bridgetown, but had everything you wanted. Then he took us around the countryside. I just can't say enough - it was "THE BEST OF BARBADOS!"

If you want to be in paradise, visit Barbados!

laid back perfection

Just had 2 weeks at butterfly beach christchurch. It was by far excellent value and excellent service. We were there the same time as the previous couple. We did eat at the hotel and found the food to be well priced in comparison to lawrence gap and very tasty. One tip is to head to Mikes bar if you have transport near silver sands. It is good food in an environment where shorts are the dress code. We went for a surf trip and although the west coast wasnt working we got it good at south piont and bathsheba. If you are going to BB then say hi to Richardo the night security gaurd. he is so lovely.

Two Years Running - Must Be Good!

by TripAdvisor Member picaroon

This was our second visit to Butterfly Beach - we were there last Easter for two weeks and got a repeat visitor discount this time. We are a family with 3 children and we had two rooms next to each other. The rooms were very clean, beds comfortable and staff always helpful. Restaurant food was fine and staff always had a (genuine) helpful smile. We hired a car for the three weeks while we were there from Mohammed Car Hire (good value, he'll meet you at the airport).Try and visit the renovated Edgewater Hotel in Bathsheba on the east coast for their buffet lunch - excellent value. Follow this with a soak in one of the rock pools on the beach. Best beach is at Accra (aka Rockley). Great waves, plenty of parking, sun beds etc with good food options across the road in the Quayside Centre. Lazy Days shop there is great for beachwear etc. If you go into Bridgetown, eat at 'Big Johns' in the main shopping street - really delicious and inventive fast food made only from wholesome ingredients - ideal for hungry tourists (some great pictures of old Barbados on the walls). There's plenty of space to dine in their upstairs sitting area. If you wear glasses also buy a pair of optically corrected swim goggles before you leave - everything is then kept in sharp focus while you swim on this island paradise!

Repeat visit - after renovations

by TripAdvisor Member Vaclav-Tom

I was curious to see how the June 2004 renovations came along and needed a tropical break before Christmas, so I booked a 3 night stay in early December 2004.

As I expected, the hotel was in great shape as always, rooms clean, staff friendly and the food tasty and reasonably priced for Barbados.

I really enjoed the new deck and added jacuzzis, as well as direct water view from the restaurant.

The manager - Miss Johnson - is always helpful and available should you have a question or need more help.

The hotel is in great location, directly on the beach and represents great value in spite of the simplicity.

Tom

Loved it

by TripAdvisor Member julied

Yes, cheap for the Caribbean, but what a location.
Friendly staff and good prices and most of the older rooms have a wonderful sea view, so don't go for the newer block unless you insist on the air con etc., which you will not need due to the ceiling fans over the beds

II have not been to the hotel since the new renovations but I am sure they are in keeping with the original feel of the hotel.
the m anageress is so helpful and friendly.
Our room at the corner had a 'double sea view' a long terrace on two sides of the room and a full kitchen. At the time it was a little worn, paint peeling here and there but who cares considering you spend the days on the beach or at sea.
I have been to Barbados twice and this is the best, you do not need luxury, just cmfort and this is what the hotel offers.
Cannot wait to go back.

Would not stay here again!

by TripAdvisor Member skirose123

There weren't any problems per say at this hotel but it was definetly lacking in many many areas.

The staff at the front desk were not helpful on suggestions on where to go for a bar directly on the beach. We actually found one on Worthing Beach called Carib Beach Bar - loved it.

The rooms were nice and clean but the beds were nothing to write home about.

The beach was beautiful as all beaches in Barbados!

The hotel was very very quiet! With not much going on. There were many times that there wasn't any music on at the beach bar! Needless to say we spent a lot of time going to other places during our stay in Barbados.

I would not suggest this hotel for someone looking for even a little bit of excitement for their vacation.

Lovely hotel

by TripAdvisor Member emg57

What a lovely hotel! Our room was at the back of the hotel but was still roomy, clean and the air conditioning was perfectly icy-cold. The facilities are great: the pool is a good size and the views to the sea are stunning. The beach by the hotel is lovely and never particularly busy. Everyone (particularly reception) was kind and friendly, though I will say the bar staff were slightly unenthusiastic and the choice of food in the restaurant isn't great - unless you are a fan of fast food and breakfast is too expensive for what it is. All in all, would thoroughly recommend.
