Peach and Quiet: Spanish style in the Carribean

by PeterVancouver

An excellent hotel especially for the price, run by an English couple. The basic design of the property is in the Moorish style so very reminisent of the Costas with palm dotted gardens throughout and a nice pool.

Bridgetown is 9 miles and the airport 3 miles from the property

The rocky waterfront some five minutes walk away is great for both snokelling and for surfing being located on the breezy SE coast line.

Sandy Bay Beach Club: All Inclusive Hotel

by leebo

This is a nice enough all inclusive hotel with a great location - right on the beach. The apartments are very large - upstairs are preferable with large balconies. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was an upgrade from their basic hotel room accommodation. We were led to believe these are very small.
The food was pretty average but there was usually plenty to choose from on the menu. There is an a-la-carte restaurant which you can eat at twice during your stay. Be careful if you book two nights in a row though as they keep the same limited menu for a couple of days! The drinks at the bar were the usual stuff - local beer and spirits but their cocktails were great - especially the rum punch!
There are two swimming pools but both are very small. There were usually a few kids in them but the adults in our party preferred the beach. There were plenty of sun loungers and parasols available there.
There are buses from outside the hotel to take you into Bridgetown. There are also plenty of taxis or try the "boogie bus" - it is an experience!
I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a cheaper all inclusive option. There are obviously a lot better hotels on the island but the prices they charge reflect that. The rooms were clean and the hotel itself was well maintained.

The location, right on a nice beach was great

Allamanda: On the Beach Hotel

by joanj

UPDATE - Since writing this tip a lot of the boardwalk has been finished, and I am flying out on Feb 14th 2009 so will keep you posted on the work in progress.

February/March 2009 - there is a Boardwalk now that stretches from Rockley beach for approx 1/2 mile. This is brilliant and used by both locals for strolling or jogging, as well as tourists for just a nice gentle walk by the sea. The boardwalk is to be extended as far as the Hilton, in Bridgetown, but that is another phase of the construction yet to be commenced.

I have included a picture of the boardwalk which runs in front of the hotel.

Rio Guesthouse: Home at the Rio

by Abeyna

Worth every penny and more, the Rio guesthouse is located in aptly named Paradise Village which is approximately in the middle of St. Lawrence Gap.

It is a few steps off the main road in a cul de sac (and some people say its unsafe as its in a darkened street which isn't strictly true), yet gives you a view of the main Gap road and the tourists and locals who frequent and idle the streets.

I was provided a room with double bed, wardrobe, ensuite bathroom and fans. Room was cleaned more or less on a daily basis. Kitchen had all the usual amenities including fridge and cupboard space. The dining room/sitting area had phone, TV and internet access, but nothing too entertaining. Basically there was little reason to leave as it had a homely vibe and comfort was one of its best qualities, complimented with a balcony overlooking the cul-de-sac.

I'd met a guy who had been living there for several months whilst looking for a job! He was about to move before I'd left only because he'd found a job further away on the west coast where they would provide him accommodation for a cheaper price.

I would definitely recommend this guesthouse for anyone planning to stay in the gap. There's little use wasting too much money on a luxury hotel room where it could be well spent on the other joys Barbados provides (expensive joys at that!).

Just off the the main road for St. Lawrence Gap
1 minute walk to the beach
Clean, comfortable, friendly
Great value for money

Lone Star: Great service

by neil-c

Stayed at the Lone Star for 10 nights in December 07. Would thoroughly recommend as a place to stay in Barbados. Greeted as our car pulled up outside by Jason and taken to a large, well furnished room with a huge balcony overlooking the ocean. Breakfast is served in the main restaraunt (right on the beach) or on your balcony. You are given reservations for both lunch and dinner in the hotel and you just tell them when you don't want them. The staff were also great at organising other places for dinner. All the staff were first class but duty managers Jason and Debbie deserve a special mention for the effort they both put in to making our time in Barbados so memorable.

One thing to remember - no swimming pool but with the caribbean sea less than 50 feet from the room you really dont need one.

All rooms (only 4 of them) face the ocean

Free mini bar stocked each day with water, soft drinks and Banks beer.

Almond Beach Club & Spa: Quiet & beautiful

by cjchrist

We were originally booked for the Almond Casuarina, but the renovation wasn't finished, so our reservation was changed to the Almond Beach Club. It is for adults only, so it was very quiet and peaceful there. You can take the hotel shuttle and use the facilities at the other Almond properties (the Almond Beach Village, for families, and the Casuarina, when it is finished). Our oceanfront suite was very nice, and the food and the service was fabulous. The grounds are beautiful. Our only complaint would be that the other guests "claim" their lounge chair early in the morning by placing their beach towel on it, making it hard to find a chair later in the day. However, these guests are using the chair for only a couple of hours during the day. The management is aware of this problem, and is working on a way to manage it without alienating some of the guests.

Guests at the Club & Spa tend to be 35 & older, whereas at the Village, they tend to be younger, with children.

They really try make sure that you are completely satisfied. We were asked several times during our stay if everything was to our liking. We filled out an optional survey a few days after our arrival, and another one on our last day.

They have a spa, but we didn't use it. However, other guests told us that it was very nice. They offer a variety of services at the spa.

Southern Palms Beach Club: Southern Palms Beach Club

by marleytwins

We stayed at the Southern Palms for 1 week in Nov 07, and had a really lovely time. The hotel is on an amazing uncrowded beach and is across the road from a few nice restaurants (We were daily customers to the Barbados Pizza Hut and Grill).
The hotel staff are very friendly, but maybe slightly unaccustomed to Western habits etc.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, but could be slightly more sound-proofed (We could hear our neighbour in the shower every morning!).
We stayed in room 138 and practically hosted the weekly rum punch party on our patio so I wouldn't recommend this room if you are after a bit of privacy.
I would definitely stay here again, superb hotel and superb location.

Little Arches: Luxury Boutique Hotel

by TRimer

This is the place that we would stay if we are to return to Barbados and wanted to stay near the airport and St. Lawrence Gap.

There are only 10 rooms and children under 16 are not allowed at the hotel.

Hilton Barbados: Nice Hotel with Pool on the Beach

by TRimer

While I stay at lots of Hilton properties during the year for my job, when I vacation I like to stay at smaller, boutique hotels where the emphasis is on service. With that said, the Hilton would not have been my first choice of accommodation in Barbados- but we had 5 free nights and the hotel was recently renovated so we figured it would not be too horrible. Plus, as a Hilton Gold member I was hoping to be upgraded to the Executive floor (which not only did not happen but they did not even give us access to the executive club). Also, we found out the week we were supposed to go that they were doing construction on the beach at the hotel so the entire time there was heavy machinery moving rocks outside our room. Breakfast everyday was a $25 US/person buffet with the worst service we had on the island. They had an omelet station, fresh fruit, breads, cereals and some buffet items. Nothing special for the price. They charge the same amount for eggs and some extras in the room so there is not much choice at the hotel. People working at the Hilton just did not seem to like being there (from the front desk to the maids to the towel guy at the pool). The final straw was that we asked for a 1pm check-out (normal is at 12pm) and they said "no". Obviously the Hilton Barbados does not care about its Hilton Honors members.

The rooms were updated yet small. The room and bathroom was painted a bright color and had amenities such as a safe, coffee maker and desk. Strangley, we were only given one coffee cup so we had to share each morning. The multi-level pool was very nice and the little convenience store on site was a life saver. Another of the drawbacks for us was that they had karoke some nights at the pool bar. This meant we could not keep our balcony door open to hear the waves as they were drowned out by the offkey ballads.

The hotel has a separate area for meeting rooms- which makes it a great hit for business conventions.
