More about Coral Mist Beach Hotel
Excellent Xmas at Coral Mist
My family and i stayed at the Coral Mist over Xmas 2005 and couldn,t have asked for a better more welcoming hotel to spend the xmas holidays. All staff without exception went out of their way to make the holiday one of the best we have spent anywhere in the world. We spent Xmas night at the hotel dinner, set up in the hotel grounds near the beach and the show and food were terrific. The location of this hotel right on the beach with all apartments having a sea view is fantastic. The beach itself is uncrowded and kept spotlessly clean by the hotel with umbrellas provided on request for those moments when you need to shelter from the tropical sun. Nearby are various shops, restaurants and bars should you need them and a short taxi ride away(approx 10-15bbd)is St Lawrence gap with all the nightlife you could need.
Thanks again to everyone who made the holiday one to remember.
Going back next year
The Coral Mist Hotel is a great value place to stay in Barbados. The staff could not do more if they tried, the maids even did the washing up! The views are out of this world, and the beach was clean and never overcrowded. We have just booked another 3 weeks with the kids for next year.
OceanFront Paradise Hotel
Coral Mist Beach Hotel - We stayed at this hotel from 3rd March - 13th March.
This hotel is in a fantastic location right slap bang on the fabulous Worthing beach. All rooms/balconies have a direct oceanfront view of the carribean sea. The hotel has a gym, small pool & a on site restaurant. The staff at this hotel are very friendly especially Vi, Karen & Reggie. This is a quiet hotel perfect for relaxation & stunning views of the carribean sea.
The rooms of the Coral Mist are tastefully decorated which includes a full kitchen with all pans, crockery etc.
Blue Orchids Hotel - This is the sister hotel to the Coral Mist & is exactly the same in standard to the Coral Mist, in my opinion the only difference is Coral Mist is Beachfront with Ocean, Blue Orchids is Oceanview but with no beach under it.
Supermarkets - Within walking distance (5mins)there is a huge supermarket called Big B, they stock all you could possibly require. They even have a help yourself hot food counter where you can get a full meal for about 10bds.
Car Hire - Car Hire in Barbados is fairly expensive. We called about 5 or 6 different car hire companies, The front desk of the hotel recommended to us Pandor Car Rentals this company delivered your car to the hotel then collected in when you were finished with it. Their prices were much cheaper than all of the others & their cars are in very good condition.
Beaches - Rockley Beach is within a 5min walk turning left out of the hotel, this is a very popular beach & gets very busy during the day, sunloungers cost 5bds each & the umbrella will cost you 10bds for the day. There is a mini supermarket & a few small restaurants around this area.
Worthing Beach - You are right on it!!! A very quiet beach Sunloungers & umbrellas are supplied free by the hotel.
Restaurants - Take your pick!!! - Places we tried were Berts & Brown Sugar. I can strongly recommend Brown Sugar this is a fantastic place you must try it. If you like fresh fish & plenty of it give it a go you wont be disapointed.
Oistins Fish Fry - The main night here is on a Friday, to get there walk out the hotel cross the road and get on the bus it cost 1.50bds each and will take about 15mins to get there. There are many vendors selling fresh fish with rice, macaroni pie etc. There is music to keep you entertained late into the night.
Good Value and Comfortable
Due to it being busy we ended up staying a few nights first at the Blue Orchid Hotel and then the rest at the Coral Mist.
We choose them because of the reviews here and we found that they were spot on. They're both nice, comfortable, clean and at a lovely spot on a quiet beach. The service is good and the location was perfect for us, being in a quiet area but only 10 mins walk from St Lawrence Gap.
The hotels are essentially exactly the same, including the decor and furnishings inside the hotel and sharing the same Gym and restaurant. I couldn't work out why they were run as separate hotels.
Road noise is a bit of a problem for a lot of the rooms. The hotels between them have five blocks, A to E. A & B belong to the Coral Mist and have the ocean on oneside and the road on the other - you will get slightly affected by road noise (& at this time of year also the surf).
Block C in the Blue Orchid was the furthest away from the road & so I presume is the least troubled by the road noise (but again close to the surf).
Whatever block you're in, the rooms on the ground floors can be easily seen into by other guests, so you might want to avoid these. This is particularly true at the Coral Mist.
There's also some turtles that feed on a reef off the shore. You can easily see them if you look to the right over the fence from the blue orchid pool. Surprisingly the hotel didn't tell us this - another guest spotted it. It was a nice way to spend the evening watching the sun set with the turtles.
You may also be interested in the mangroves and wildlife at the Greame Hall nature reserve which is only 10 mins walk from the hotel (just before Lawrence gap) which was a nice way to spend a couple of hours in the late afternoon.
All in all, it's great value, particularly for Barabados with lots of positives. I'm sure you wont be dissapointed if you stay here.
We spent 2 weeks at the coral mist. Its the best you are going to get. It has every thing you need . The ocean is at high tide 10 feet from the hotel. a great sandy beach . The resturant is a little slow but what is your hurry. The food is good fresh and well prepared. If you dont need coffee dont get it. Cream is not served on the island. Every one is friendly. If the noise of the surf borthers you close your door and turn on the AC. The same with the road traffic. I do suggest that you go to a bank and change your money to theres. It will be a lot better to get around with. The one bad thing about the island is the traffic will not stop to let you cross the street no matter how slow it is going. The best super market is the Big B turn to your right and to the traffic light and take a left about a 10 min walk. Fast food is to your left Cheffett about 10 min walk. The best tour is Williams island tours. They are great. A all day snorkle boat trip is your next best tour. If you do nothing else take in these two tours. Use only the blue bus for $1.50 exact change. The bus stop in both direction is out side the hotel. Good luck and Have fun.
great spot - no problems with towels or litter !
just returned from 2 week stay. great location, clean tidy sandy beach ( no litter ) beach towels changed regually.Considering the time of year very good value for Barbados. I note that both First Choice & Virgin use the hotel & it may well be cheaper through them but have not yet checked.
Staff very friendly & maids very effecient.
Beach very quiet - almost no vendors, plenty of sun beds so not sure why some 'Sun' readers were up every morning reserving some.
stayed in east wing - room numbers begin with 'A' - no road noise as these rooms have a separate door to well equipped kitchen area. Our room was much nicer than some of the rooms at Blue Orchid - the sister hotel next door (+ more expensive i think ). Need to ask for beds to set as double otherwise standard configuration is as twin.If only 2 of you - no point in taking one bed apartment as room plenty big enough & why be inside ?
large fridge freezer, with great little ice maker trays - ideal for stocking up from nearby supermarket.Plenty of restaurants in walking distance.Really liked Champers.
For divers Bubble Adventure were great - 2 dive instructors & a max of 6 divers but we never had more than 3.
Plan to return to Coral Mist & to Bubble Adventure.
nb we dont usually return anywhere - the world is just too big.
Wonderful - except for the road noise.
The hotel is brilliant, lovely helpful staff, nice rooms, nice balconies, lovely position on the beach, but the noise from the road behind the hotel was disturbing and did occasionally feel as if you were living on a freeway (route taxis blow their horns non stop). Despite this we would probably still go back simply because the hotel itself was so nice. It is a good 10 minutes walk from the Gap which in itself was not limiting and only 5 mins from Rockley Beach. I would avoid any property that says it is 'across the road from the beach' as the road is lethal!
First class hotel
Just returned from eleven nights at what must be considered one of the best hotels we have stayed at on the island. The apartment was always spotlessly clean, staff very friendly and helpfull and went out their way to make our stay enjoyable. The beach was never crowded although the sea at times was a little rough there were two swimming pools as an alternative. The Acqua Mist Restaurant cooked superb meals to order throughout the day with a level of service to match. The Hotel is well positioned with good shopping and a wide choice of eating out/nightlife a short distance away.
location location location
Stayed here for the new year.we had a studio apartment.Which was more than ample for the two of us.The rooms were always very clean with every kitchen appliance you could wish for.Indian restaurant opposite bus stop outside and pubs and restaurants within walking distance.we even walked to st lawrence gap a few times.but the highlight had to be the beautful beach below our balcony.quite clean and always loungers and umbrellas.in the afternoon the staff played beach volleyball with any guests who cared to join in.The only small downside was the traffic noise at night. On saying that i would definately return to this hotel as my first choice just take a pair of earplugs because its certainly worth this minor irritation.I cant think of a nicer hotel overall within this budget.id love to go back
Good value, but...
We stayed at a one bedroom which was spacious and super clean. Furnishings were basic. Balcony overlooking ocean was nice size. The staff were very friendly and helped make any and all arrangements. The property was always kept very clean, inside and out.
Now for the but...our room was 5 meters from the ocean at high tide and the surf noise was LOUD. On the other side your 5 meters from a main street. We had no problem with street noise but we think that was because the ocean drowned it out (pun intended).
Light sleepers will have a problem.
The pool is very small and the chaises had no cushions. The resturant service was slow even for the islands...do yourself a favor and take a left out of the hotel and walk 5 minutes to the Sugar Reef for lunch or dinner...same prices, better service and food, nicer view.
All in all, a great value, but watch the noise and don't expect great furnishings.
If $ is no object, South Seas resturant (B$300-400/couple) is over the top with great service and location. Or try Josef's nearby. Not the same price (B$200-300/couple) or service, but you can have a seat over the ocean with a light surf breaking 3 meters below you table.
