Costa Maya Cabanas by JetlagCity Costa Maya Cabanas offers a number of small rooms and also a couple of 1-bedroom apartments. The small rooms don't look very nice, but one of the apartments was perfect for us since we were staying for an entire week. Both apartments (units 5 & 6 - on their website they refer to #6 as the 1-bedroom beach house) are upstairs. At first I thought this was bad because heat rises, but I quickly discovered that you catch more of the breeze upstairs, so it's actually an advantage. We had hardwood floors, an air conditioner, but never needed to use it. Also had a full kitchen, which was nice, TV, shower but no bathtub, and a big deck with hammocks you can put up. The place isn't luxury, but it fits in perfectly with Caye Caulker. Costa Maya Cabanas share on office with Tsunami Adventures, which can set you up on snorkelling or diving tours. It's located north of downtown on Front Street, close to The Split. Their website has good pictures, check it out. We took advantage of their weekly special: $450US. The nightly rate for our apt. is $75US.

Relaxing on our veranda by Maria_75 I didn't try out all of the places on the island, even if we checked out plenty of them, so I can't say for sure if it is the best place. But of all the ones that we looked at this was without a doubt the best place! There are different rooms and most of them has a private veranda with hammocks. Our room was very big with two doublebeds, a nice and clean bath, tv, two fans and veranda with two hammocks. We paid 45 belizean (22,5 USD) for the room, and it's not a bad price on Caye Caulker. The best about the place is the dock where you can take sun, go swimming or relax in the many hammocks. The hotel is situated almost at the split, and it's just a few minutes walk 'downtown'. Mara, that runs the place, is a really nice and charming women. And her little chihuahua Tipsy is the cutest dog I ever saw. When we were sitting in the hammocks she always came to play or just to cuddle a bit. She was also guarding the gate and barked at all of the locals, but didn't care anything about the tourists. Even if she wasn't bigger than a cat, she was not afraid about chasing away bigger dogs that came to close her... ;) Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averagePhone: 501 226 0156Directions: Located close to the split

In my early December, 2005 preparations for our trip to Belize, I had checked out various Accommodations on VT, and the Trends seemed to hit a chord with me! Although not fancy, it was reasonably priced at US$40/night for a double and I liked the looks of it's beachside setting. They required a 2-night non-refundable credit card deposit, which I sent 2 months before our arrival, but it was never actually cashed in before we turned up (unlike some of the other locations in Belize). The Trends is owned and run by one of the local islanders, Trenton, who greeted us on our arrival from the airport. He showed us our room and gave us the key but said never mind the paperwork until tomorrow. It was already looking relaxing!
The Trends Beachfront has a single cabana at ground level (at the right in this photo) and a block of six double rooms, three on each floor (they also have a few non-beachfront rooms and their main office a few blocks away in mid-Caye Caulker). We had the middle room on the top, but sort of wished we had a corner room because they had hammocks slung on their outside deck, making an excellent relaxation spot. The side rooms also had the benefit of windows on a front and side wall, helping the ceiling fan to deal with the heat of the day. Still, I wasn't complaining because there was a huge private sandy area in front of the building that was available for our enjoyment down by the palm trees waving in the breezes as life passed by on the beachfront! I was surprised to learn that the Trends Hotel adjoins the Sand Box restaurant, which is also run by Trenton. That made meals very convenient as well! Miramar hotel by Maria_75 Miramar is an ok place to stay. If everything else is full... The people there are nice, but everyone on the island are so nice and welcoming. The shower and bathrooms are dirty, and so are the rooms. The price is not so bad, but for the same price you can get much better rooms other places. The best about the hotel is the view from the veranda. Another good thing is that it's very central, but since the island is very small you are never so far away from anything anyway. Maxhapan cabaņas by Maria_75 This is a really nice place to stay. The rooms are new and clean, and you can choose between ac or fan. It's situated south of the watertaxi dock and is not so far from the center but it's a five minute walk to the beach. The area is very nice and quiet.

the hotel tropical paradise is about as close to the beach as you will ever get! i wouldn't call it a 'hotel' as such, but on this island, it rates up there as a hotel! the accomodations are simple, yet clean and tidy. the cabins are very 'islandy', with beautiful wooden flooring, lots of windows to feel that tropical air, and of course, views to the sea. showers were always warm, bathrooms clean, tv in room as well (although i made it a rule that there was to be NO tv on during latin america, and i did not succumb to temptation!) the hotel has a reception area that can store your belongings in a safe, and the girls there are very friendly and helpful. the restaurant as well serves good food at a reasonable price. and of course, there are deckchairs that you can lay on and enjoy the seabreeze. overall, a great place to stay! If you manage to get out on the beautiful island of Caye Caulker I would recommend the Costa Maya Cabanas. The owners are friendly and I was offered a special price on the grounds that I rented for a two week period, and this proved very inexpensive. The check-in also doubles as Tsunami Adventures, a agent that organises scuba trips, snorkelling, boating, trips inland. It was very handy. Located at the north end of the Caye it is close enough for access to the bars and restaurants but far enough away to offer some solitude. It is near the split where there is excellent swimming and nearby is the Lazy Lizard bar which is basically an outdoor beach bar. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to visit Caye Caulker.
Views of the Carribean...it is only about 30 metres from the beach and has no obstructions to the view. Tsunami Adventures operate out of the checkin office and can organise half day or full day excursions with many, many adventures on offer fairly cheap. Coffee maker, fridge in every cabana and cable TV for the couch potato! Hammocks are out on the veranda for those lazy days in the sun. 2 Beds, Fridge & Bathroom thru rear right entrance by Bwana_Brown The hotel room itself was basic with two double beds, a mini refrigerator, ceiling fan and a shower/bathroom area in a small room at the rear (which also had a window to allow a through breeze from the front louvered windows). Actually, with only a single sheet cover on the bed, our first night was a bit chilly (I guess I should not have left the ceiling fan on #2). However, that did not happen again in our final two nights as the temperatures had returned to normal. We really did enjoy our time spent at the Trends Beachfront Hotel during the daytime, check it out on my 'Things to Do' tips!
I have never before met so many Canadians (almost as many as Americans!) on a vacation as during our 3-weeks in Belize. It started in Caye Caulker when it turned out that the top floor rooms beside ours were occupied by couples from Alberta and Saskatchewan. This led to some late night discussions on the balcony, over a cold Belikin beer or two, about the joys of traveling and many other subjects! The couple from Regina, Saskatchewan were actually at the beginning of a 7-week back-packing trip down to Panama, and we seemed to really hit it off with them. In the end, we learned that they were planning to spend a night near the Belize Zoo, in the middle of nowhere between Belize City and Belmopan, at about the same time as we planned to be in that area. After we went our separate ways from Caye Caulker, we did end up meeting them in the Belize forest outside the Zoo - a story that is told on my 'Belmopan' page! Theme: Hotel

Barefoot Beach Belize, our home away from home! by Jefie, 4 more photos There are all sorts of accommodations available on Caye Caulker, ranging from the most rustic cabanas to quite luxurious resorts. If you want to experience simple and quiet life on the island while still having access to the comforts of home (air conditioning, cable TV, Internet access, mini-fridge and coffee maker), then staying at Barefoot Beach might be your best option. "Home" actually is an appropriate word here, because owners Kim and Susan are so nice and friendly, it truly felt as though we were staying with family! They'd often stop to chat, making sure we were having an enjoyable and comfortable stay at the same time. Our room and ensuite bathroom were really nice, and housekeeper Heidi did a great job keeping it clean. Watching the sunrise on the Caribbean Sea through our bedroom window sure was a great way to start the day! We also enjoyed hanging out on our patio and on the hotel's private dock, from where you can fish, sunbathe or lie down in one of the hammocks under the palapa. No wonder it's one of the best rated spots on the island!
If you're planning a longer stay on Caye Caulker, you might want to look into renting a suite or one of the hotel's cottages. These come with fully equipped kitchens and a living area, and can accommodate up to four people.
