Costa Maya Cabana's

Very clean, located near the split on Front Street. Quiet part of town. They offer tv, coffee/maker, fridge, hot showers, hammocks, canoes, bikes. The beach is just a short trot across the street. Tsunami Adventures, tsunamiadventures.com, is located there also and they can set you up with any adventure you want; snorkeling, diving, day or night, manatee watching, cave tubing, zip line, ruin tours...

Unique Quality: Great view of beach. Rooms are small, but you rarely spend time in them. Very clean, good people.

Wonderfully peaceful

Awesome accommodations! Adele held our reservations up until she closed her shop for the day. Luckily we flew from Belize City into Caye Caulker and took a taxi (golf cart) from the airport to the Cabana just in time. Adele's recommendations were on pointe for our cave tubbing tour, restaurants and walks. Our stay at the Cabanas were enjoyable, peaceful and comforting. Our room had small creature comforts consisting of a coffee maker, small refridgerator, TV and an overhead fan to keep the mosquitos at bay. The Cabanas are set across from their private beach and dock on a sandy flat area. It is not wheelchair accessible meaning that there are no ramp areas to the higher apartments on the second floor and the sand will hinder the movement of the wheelchair. There are two bottom apartments that might better equipped. It could be possible, but inquire. While we were there, they were completing another set of cabanas. We did not have enough time to use the complimentary kayaks or bikes but they are there for your use. I would highly recommend the Cabanas because of the service and quality for the monies you pay.

Unique Quality: Ocean or peek of ocean views from your cabana. Hammocks. Complimentary bikes and kayaks. Private dock and beach. Short walk to the "split". Your complete tour guide specialist. Restaurants are within walking distance or rent a taxi (golf cart). Islanders are very friendly. Wireless internet access - a little slow - but connected!
Adele, our professionally wonderful hostess. Her recommendations are highly valuable and she was instant family to us during our stay.
Quiet and peaceful. Relaxing.

Inexpensive Apartment

Costa Maya Cabanas offers a number of small rooms and also a couple of 1-bedroom apartments. The small rooms don't look very nice, but one of the apartments was perfect for us since we were staying for an entire week.

Both apartments (units 5 & 6 - on their website they refer to #6 as the 1-bedroom beach house) are upstairs. At first I thought this was bad because heat rises, but I quickly discovered that you catch more of the breeze upstairs, so it's actually an advantage. We had hardwood floors, an air conditioner, but never needed to use it. Also had a full kitchen, which was nice, TV, shower but no bathtub, and a big deck with hammocks you can put up. The place isn't luxury, but it fits in perfectly with Caye Caulker.

Costa Maya Cabanas share on office with Tsunami Adventures, which can set you up on snorkelling or diving tours. It's located north of downtown on Front Street, close to The Split. Their website has good pictures, check it out. We took advantage of their weekly special: $450US. The nightly rate for our apt. is $75US.

Best accomodation on Caye Caulker

If you manage to get out on the beautiful island of Caye Caulker I would recommend the Costa Maya Cabanas. The owners are friendly and I was offered a special price on the grounds that I rented for a two week period, and this proved very inexpensive.
The check-in also doubles as Tsunami Adventures, a agent that organises scuba trips, snorkelling, boating, trips inland. It was very handy. Located at the north end of the Caye it is close enough for access to the bars and restaurants but far enough away to offer some solitude. It is near the split where there is excellent swimming and nearby is the Lazy Lizard bar which is basically an outdoor beach bar. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to visit Caye Caulker.

Unique Quality: Views of the Carribean...it is only about 30 metres from the beach and has no obstructions to the view. Tsunami Adventures operate out of the checkin office and can organise half day or full day excursions with many, many adventures on offer fairly cheap.
Coffee maker, fridge in every cabana and cable TV for the couch potato! Hammocks are out on the veranda for those lazy days in the sun.
