GREEN POOL - Dissappointed

We were excited about the Blue Tang Inn from our online research, it looked like it would be a great place, as it has recieved some good reviews in the past.

The hotel is small, only 13 to 14 rooms.

The Ocean View room that we stayed in, had palm trees that blocked the view, and the pool was green, and the rooms definately had seen their better days!

Worst thing was that the pool was green. "Dennis" the owner, who seemed more interested in sailing than dealing with the guests, stated that there was nothing wrong with a green pool, and sacasticallly stated that he may paint the bottom blue to hide the green tint!

Unique Quality: Pool was green, and the beach was very busy and shallow - they also had very large Sting Rays swimming around the area

  • Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Clean and very well run operation. Ask and they will help in any way possible.

Unique Quality: Great location in town to everything. Small but very nice.

WENT OVER THE BELIZEAN BORDER (CUSTOM PROCEDERE WAS EASY BUT WE HAD SOME PROBLEM TO GET TRANSPORT) TO COROZAL TOWN. STAYED AT MAYA GUESTHOUSE (BYRONCHUSTER@GMAIL.COM) WALKED IN THE PEACEFUL SMALL TOWN AND HAD CHINESE DINNER.
27TH MORNING STROLLED ALONG THE BEACH AND LEFT TO THE SMALL AIRSTRIP FROM WHERE WE WENT BY SMALL PLANE (AMAYA AIRLINES) OVER TO SAN PEDRO IN AMBERGRIS CAYE) WE WENT TO OUR PREBOOKED HOTEL BLUE TANG INN http://www.bluetanginn.com/index.php
AT A LOVELY BEACH WITH OWN PIER NEAR TO THE BUSY CENTER OF THE TOURIST TOWN. AFTER LUNCH WE WENT CYCLING AROUND THE ISLAND INCLUDING THE NORTHERN PART WHICH IS STILL RATHER UNPOPULATED BUT UNDER BOOMING CONSTRUCTION.AND MADE SHORT SHOPPING. AS IT WAS SATURDAY THE PLACE WAS VERY FULL INCLUDING LOCAL TOURISTS. WE HAD NICE SEAFOOD DINNER AND LISTENED MUSIC FROM THE MAIN SQUARE AND HAD A NIGHT SWIM.
SUNDAY MRONIGN WE LEFT EARLY FOR OUR LAMANAI TOUR BY SMALL SPEED BOAT (135 USD) start with a short boat ride across the lee waters of Ambergris to the mainland, then a trip up the beautiful New River. You will see many birds and perhaps manatees, crocodiles and other wildlife. Lamanai has a wonderful setting on the New River Lagoon. You'll get a private tour of this Maya site and likely will see a troop of black howler monkeys. Often includes lunch at Lamanai Outpost Lodge..at noon we arrived at the lamanai ancient mayan temple deep in the jungle, climbed up to several temples..had excellent guide and picnick. in the evening arrived back for a good seafood dinner and another swim.
MONDAY RELAXED AT THE HOTEL BEACH BEFORE TAKING THE MAYA FLIGHT TO BELIZE MUNICIPAL WHERE WE WERE PICKED UP BY THE DRIVER FROM THE FIVE SISTERS LODGE IN MOUNTAIN PINE RIDGE. AFTER LUNCHSTOP AT AMIGOS IN BELMOPAN AND SAN IGNACIO WENT ON A STEEP MOUTAIN ROAD THOURHG THE JUNGLE AND THEN PINE WOOD WHICH LOOKED IN OUR AREA. BEFORE SUNSET WE ARRIVED AT THE LODGE.

JUST IN TIME TO GO DOWN TO THE FRESH PICTURESQUE WATERFALL.. HAD GOD LOCAL DINNER BEFORE SLEEPING IN THE DARKNESS.
TUESDAY 30TH DEC. WE MADE A DAY TRIP TO UP TO THE CARACOL RUINS
An early departure takes you to the newly excavated ancient Mayan site of Caracol located deep in the Chiquibul Rainforest. Caracol, in the 7th century A.D., had actually conquered the city of Tikal, Peten, Guatemala. Next stop is the famous Rio Frio Cave where stalactites and stalagmites form an eerie backdrop to an ancient worship place. Finally, swim in the cooling crystalline waters of the Rio On pools as it cascade over granite boulders
