Excellent Resort - Brilliant Staff !!

by TripAdvisor Member DivingVixster

What a great place !!. We got picked up from the airport in a golf cart and had a little tour of the island - which was very helpful. The guy who picked us up (who's name unfortunately has escaped me...) was brilliant and so so helpful, overall the staff were the best. We checked in and they mentioned that they had upgraded us ! The resort really did just offer your accommodation with no restaurant, but don't let this put you off as there are so many restaurants to try out. They even had a unique book put together in your room with menus and more info on the island with the option for beers and soft drinks to be ordered and delvered to your room anyway !!. There was a small supermarket just a couple of minutes anyway and about a 20 min walk along the beach to the town (where there are some good bars to stop in at as you go !). Crazy Canucks was good and don't bother eating at Wild Mango's !! eeww we sent the food back as it was full of garlic and had a tonne of salt in it !!! we walked out hungry as it was past 9pm and no where really did food after this time !!!. Things tend to close pretty early there but as we went there for the diving we didn't mind as an early start was always on the agenda. The resort recommended diving with Amigos Del Mar which were brill ! Professional and very organised. They picked us up from the Caribbean Villas Pier every time ( which I have to say is prob one of the best ! with a hammock and small man made reef ) My partner did the famous Blue Hole dive but didn't rate much to it ! The boat briefing began with stating that there would be no marine life and that the dive started at 45m !!!! Cave diving is not really my thing so opted for the snorkeling where I seem to have seen a lot more marine life than any of the divers. The diving is good but we traveled 1/2 way across the world from Dubai, UAE so I don't know if my expectations were too high but I would have prob opted to go back to the Maldives for diving....

Overall a great trip and would recommend Caribbean Villas. They are basic, clean, friendly and very very good value for money !!!

Enjoy your trip and if you choose to stay here and are looking for the above you'll love it !!!

Just right

Outside of the snorkelling I really didn't like San Pedro. It is a dusty, dirty town with marginal food. The people are friendly. I found the Caribbean Villas to be above average for the area. The staff was awesome and the accomadations nice but not luxurious. It was perfect for our stay and very reasonable.

Interestingly I found the best food and the little huts near the ferry terminal.

The people really make the place. Housekeeping was great. Please don't forget to tip them. Alfonso was unforgettable and we did two trips with him.

Don't miss Lamanai.

Leaves alot to be desired...

There are some problems with this hotel that we think are not mentioned in other reviews. We stayed in a "Deluxe Room." (Room 12). There was nothing deluxe about it. It was very dark - the bulbs must not be more than 40 watts each. The door is set back in the building and in the back (where the windows are, there are trees. The result it there is no light that gets in. There is very little breeze due to the situation of the room, and since there is no screen door, you can't take advantage of the breeze off of the ocean. Thus, we had to use the AC which was the loudest we ever heard and decided it was not worth the noise, so we just slept in the humid, breezeless air. (Leaving the door propped open for even 5 minutes was a huge mistake: mosquitoes are everywhere.) There is a microwave, coffeemaker and small refrigerator. The coffeemaker was dirty as were the dishes provided. The beach is a pretty beach, but again, the mosquitoes were so bad that you can not enjoy it. (We saw nobody sitting there for the 3 days we were there.) And, an unpleasant surprise was the properties on either side. One seems to be a loading dock, so there were huge barges and machines, trucks, you name it piled on those barges that would come and go. Not our idea of paradise to look at. The property on the other side was a run down 2 story house like structure. The staff is nice, but that was the only real up side. We are not a couple always looking for perfection and the most luxe accommodations. We have stayed in some places in need of renovations and on the cheap side in many countries in Europe and Central America. This hotel did not cut it due to the dirtiness, darkness, and dismal scenery on both sides of the hotel.

Great place for relaxation in the sun.

This was out first trip to Beliz after visiting most of the other carabbean locations. The Carabbean Villas was a great place to stay. The staff was helpful and knowledgable. We stayed in Suite #1 which was only twenty feet from the water. We did not see any misquitoes at the villa, We knew that there would not be a pool or TV and were worried but we soon didn't miss either. The grounds are a bird sanctuary full of trees. We visited several of the other resorts and none of them seemed to have the shade and breezes that were here. We will be going back the first chance that we get.

super place

Caribbean Villas - A Great Choice!

by TripAdvisor Member SnorkleSnowbird

We just spent 8 days at Caribbean Villas and were thrilled by everything there! The staff, the view, the rooms, the flowers, the two hot tubs! All first rate. We chose this resort after much study simply because they DO NOT have a beach bar or restaurant - there are tons close by - just walk 100 feet down the beach. But the atmosphere is quiet and relaxing - all you hear at night are the birds! Make sure if they get you a golf cart to have them book through Monchos - the other one the staff may use is called Island Tour rentals - they make you put in the gas - they don't give you any rebate if you break down - and trying to find the one gas station on the island is a pain! Monchos gave us a great rate and if we had run out of gas - they would have filled it up again for free! Don't miss HolChan with Alphonso! We have snorkled all over the caribbean, including Cayman Islands, and nothing can even come close to this experience! When buying food - avoid the big Island SuperMarket (pink with glass block windows) - use the smaller closer grocery stores. We paid $15.00 for a syrofoam cooler that was in the other stores for $4.99!

Perfect for Independents

This place was everything we wanted. Peace and tranquility. Beautiful gardens and dock. Bird sanctuary and artificial reef. Unbelievable staff.

We had booked a deluxe room for seven nights and when we arrived, they upgraded us to a one-bedroom suite! It had it's own patio and we made GOOD use of it!

The breezes made each night serene and comfortable on soft white sheets.

The kitchen had everything we needed and there was a small convenience store 5 minutes away and a local restaurant for JohnnyCakes!

Plenty of hammocks to go around!

The staff was incredible. Javier picked us up and gave us a great tour. He came around the corner our first afternoon and chopped open a coconut for us! He was full of information and fun.

Lily and Ampi were super-friendly and helpful in every possible way. They made our lives so easy.

Ignore the other posts about this place leaving a lot to be desired. If you are a soft and high-maintenance Resort Boob, don't come to Belize. And definitely don't come to Ambergris.

Caribbean Villas

This is a quiet, clean place to relax. I had found this hotel on a previous trip and brought my wife here for our aniversary. There is no tv, which was exacty what we wanted, and we could start the day out on the balcony watching the sun come up. The room has a fridge, microwave and a coffee maker (for making the great coffee from the Belize Coffee Company - just a short bicycle ride away). The grounds are well kept and the tower in the bird sanctuary is great (we met several locals that come to watch the sun set from the tower). My wife and I are planning on returning again next year.

Wonderful small hotel

by TripAdvisor Member cbno

This is a small 12 room hotel with a beautiful view of the Caribbean,
and their own pier. They are right on the beach and have small suites
and rooms with kitchen facilities. They are in an area with many good
restaurants, bars with entertainment, and wonderful snorkeling. I hve
been going to Belize for more than 12 years and alway stay here as it
is such a comfortable place. The have a web site, Caribbean villas.com

Beach side tranquility

by TripAdvisor Member Jamessaunders1010

We had a lovely time here. The walk into town is quite long (15 mins) when you're tired, but we did it every day/night with no problems. Trips from the hotel pier are convenient though.

Ambergris is a lovely place to stay.
