Paradise

by RSM2507 about Cayo Espanto

Private island. Very exclusive. We went here for a special birthday. Everyone has a separate villa complete with house boy. The food and accomodations were wonderful. Beautiful view. Great way to relax. Each villa has it's own plunge pool and heavenly linens. The day we were checking out Tiger Woods was checking in. It's either aprivateisland or myprivateisland.com. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience. My husband can't sit still that long, so every day we'd take an excursion. Scuba diving in a park, fishing, picnicing, island tours. Come back, eat lunch, get a message, nap, happy hour... It was perfect. The menu can be customized to suit your taste.

Very expensive!

Cayo Espanto's award winning...

Cayo Espanto's award winning chefs provide gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner that will leave you craving more. The menu is catered to each individuals food preferences. Before you arrive on the island you are sent a questionnaire regarding your dining prefernces so the staff can ensure they have what you like to eat on the island when you arrive.
The best part of the island is that you can eat whenever or where ever you like. You can eat inside in your villa, or under the stars on your own private dock. All of the food was great, but the desserts were excetptional. Especially the key lime pie. If you ever visit the island you have to request it.

by giobiker

If you dive or snorkel you must take a trip to Hol Chan, Belize's National Marine Park, where you can scuba dive and snorkel amid grouper and various types of tropical fish, inclduing sharks and sting rays, in the second largest barrier reef on earth. The island of Cayo Espanto is the perfect place to go to just relax and get a way from it all. Every magnificent cabana is decorated with sea front freshwater pools, hammocks with 360 degree views of the Caribbean and personal staff to cater to your every need.

A Private Island Getaway

by giobiker

Our visit to Belize was a little off the beaten path. We flew into Belize city, took a puddle jumper to San Pedro and then took a boat to a three-acre powder white private island called Cayo Espanto, just off the coast. When our boat arrived at the dock, we were greated by the staff who took great care in catering to our needs during our stay.

Belize in December 2003

by SumTingWong

Hola a todos Hi everyone:

I really need some help! I am not one for luxurous travel, but I have to find a luxury resort in Belize (for a group of 21 aged from 8-80 Years old, a nice beach is needed). My family wants to have a reunion in Belize at some beach resort for December 2003. Does anyone know where to stay, any reccomendations? Thanks in advance!!

try and look around the island of san pedro.
it's an upscale tourist island with very nice beaches.
caye caulker might be an option too, but its much smaller than san pedro.

Belize isn't really about luxury resorts or about beaches. I suggest you go to the Belize FIrst website http://www.belizefirst.com/indexhotelstars.html and look at the recommendations - Those places that are likely to have beaches are

5 Star:
Cayo Espanto, near Ambergris Caye
Inn at Robert’s Grove, Seine Bight (Placencia

4+ Star
Luba Hati, Seine Bight (Plancencia)
Mata Chica, Ambergris Caye (San Pedro)
Victoria House, Ambergris Caye
Villas at Banyan Bay, Ambergris Caye

The only one I've been to, and that just for dinner is 4 Star
Kitty’s Place, Placencia The dinner was excellent.

What a great place for a reunion! When I researched my Belize vacation, I spent a lot of time on this site: http://citynet.com/central_america/central_america.html

Follow the links to the hotel websites and find the one that's right for you. I sent off a lot of emails for more information, and most places are very good at replying within a few days.

Just a note, the Cayes are beautiful but if you're looking for soft, deep sand beaches like on Eastern Carribean islands, you won't find them. The barrier reef off the coast (2nd longest in the world) keeps the water very still right up to the shore. With no waves, the beaches don't accumulate sand. I'm not trying to dissuade you, lying around next to the water is still a prime activity. I just wanted to let you know what to expect from the beach.

Kitty's would be a good place for your group - they have good variety of rooms from beach cabanas and apartments to garden rooms. There's also a guesthouse next door with two really nice suites if you need them for the overflow.

Depending on how much money you can spend you can find some really nice resorts with big sandy beaches on the islands outside the reef. One even has a golf course. Look at the resorts on the Turneff Islands, Blackbird or further south.
