Simple accomodation
by smyturn about Mata Rocks
Bed, bath, air conditioning and right on the beach what else do you need? Hotel offered golf carts and bicycles for traveling the island. Bicycles were free but there was a small charge for the golf carts. The island was small enough that everything you need was within easy cycling distance, but we were not in the heart of the main village in San Pedro. No pool but the Caribbean is right out your door and they have swimming privileges at the hotel next door.
Belize's Best Stay
by bren1125 about Mata Rocks
Mata Rocks -rocks! The Canadian owners Liz and Terry have done an outstanding job in keeping the resort in fantastic shape. I travel independently and like my accommodations to be smaller, more intimate. This is the place. From the helpful pick-up at the airport to the receptionist, my arrival could not have been better. Everything that I requested was taken care of from day trips to my golf cart rental. After settling in, I suggest a rum punch from the in house pub "Squirrel's Nest" located just outside your door on the sand. Sherlyn your bartender makes a fantastic cocktail. Be sure to sample the island concoctions as well. She is an avid football fan so be sure to knowledge up before you go. They can also order food from several local eateries, inexpensive and good. Try the $6 burger from next door. Pricey but it will feed two. Bon appetite! The rooms overlook the ocean and private garden area. I stayed on the second floor in a standard room and the view from my balcony was fantastic. The best suite on the grounds is #6 at the end of the top floor. I think I will stay on the ground floor the next time.
Right on the beach
by smyturn about Mata Rocks
Little grass shack right outside the hotel. Waddle out of the room, jump in the turquoise Caribbean, plop onto a lounge chair and voila!!! This little grass hut and one just like it at most Ambergris Caye hotels, serves up all kinds of edible and non edible snacks, pseudo meals and perfectly delightful drinks chairside. How sweet is that? Other than edible fungus and the occasionally kind backpacking companion you just dont get that kind of service on the AT trail or out in the middle of nowhere. I may have to rethink this hotel/resort thing. Most anything liquid when the wee impressionable child is asleep.
Golf Cart Rental
by bren1125
Moncho's Rentals is where I rented my golf cart for $32.00US per day.
I stayed at Mata Rocks and walked the beach front most of my stay. If you have no injuries walking everywhere is easy and safe. From Mata to downtown was a 30 minute beach walk. Again I traveled alone and never felt unsafe. It is impossible to get lost since there are only three streets. I went to the clubs on two nights and took a taxi one night (too many Mojitos) the cost was $5.00US.
Belize Holiday

"Belize Holiday"
Don't miss the Caves Branch River Cave Tubing and the snorkeling at Goffs Caye. Take a day trip by local water taxi to Caye Caulker. Where you can eat a one of the eight local cafes or go to the split (end of the road) and have a coconut coloda with your feet dangling off the water wall.
"Mata Rocks Resort"
Mata Rocks-an intimate resort (24 ocean view rooms) and an enjoyable place to relax. Terry and Liz are the Canadian owners of this little resort in heaven. Sherlyn is the bartender at the in house pub and she can do wonders in pouring the local drinks. Take some snacks and kick it by the pool or wander the three feet to the sandy beach and lay under the coconut trees with on of the local cocktails. If you have a day trip planned you will be picked up right on the dock for your local outing.
"Shark Ray Alley"
Snorkel with nurse sharks and rays. They come right up to you.
