My Sister and the view from the lodge by MrRandMcnally An amazingly beautiful place, nestled in the jungle along the Macal river Black Rock is an ecologicly friendly lodge, powered by a small hydro generator and solar power with solar heated water. While deffinatly out in the jungle, isolated from civilization and rustic it is still a pampered life. With excelent meals, clean beautiful cabins and a comfortable lodge with a beautiful view. The jungle and the animals that come with it surround you and can often be seen from your room or the lodge. Vaca Falls, unexcavated Mayan Ruins and the Flour camp cave are within Hiking or riding distance, Xunitouch is about 7 miles away, and Tikal is just a day trip away.
Black Rock boasts a wide selection of activities, tubing, canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, caving, etc. all with experienced, knoledgable guides to show you the details of the jungle and mayan history. The family style dinners at the lodge give you a chance to meet your fellow travelers and share your days adventures with each other. Perhaps not as luxurious or expensive as Chaa Creek or Duplooys but it has charms that make pampered roughing it a wonderful experience, Also the off season discount makes it very affordable though the rainy season can make getting there more difficult. Stay at Black Rock and you will not be disapointed.
