This was the second place we checked out in Caye Caulker and to us there couldn't have been a better place. We were surprised when backpackers would check out the rooms and decide to go elsewhere...to us...it was perfect. We had the first double double room, upstairs at the front. Our wooden shutter opened up with a view of the ocean. It's on the main street so it's a great place to people watch and drink Belikin.
The rooms are small but what are you doing in your room when you're on a beautiful tropical island?! All rooms come with a fan, and if you get the two rooms at the front, a view of the ocean. There are two full bathrooms located at the end of the hall. We payed 30BZE for our double room. Albert's supermarket is right next door - if you need to stock up on Belikin. wierd monkey by EGitan We arrived to the resort late after getting lost, having to stop and call for directions and driving through a downpour! It was dark as we pulled down a foggy dirt road and waited for the voices to take us across the river. In the dark a man stepped out of the fog and led us to several canoes where we threw as little as possible in the boat and rowed across the other side to the resort. It was late and the kitchen had closed but the staff were kind enough to bring us some sandwiches and beer. The room was nice enough but after seeing and hearing the patter patter of little feet (roaches) and the buzz of the skeeters....it made for a long night. The next morning we had a wonderful ranch style breakfast with some of the other guests and headed on our way. I think my experience would have been a little better if we weren't in such a rush and if the roaches had been a little more quiet about their existence.
Banana Bank is owned by managed by John and Carolyn Carr - Carolyn, a well-known artist specializing in Belize street scenes, and John, a former Montana cowboy and real-live rodeo star. Together, they've created a very unique jungle lodge and equestrian center on the banks of the Belize River. At Banana Bank, guests can still discover relics of former Mayan civilizations on the grounds of the Lodge, visit Carolyn's studio, star-gaze through a Mead telescope, tour Mayan ruins, canoe the Belize River, tube through underground caves, experience the Belize jungle on a trail ride through the Banana Bank Equestrian Center -- AND visit with Tika, the Lodge's pet jaguar (authorized through a special permit from the Belize government). by Aliseeya All of the cabanas are situated within a multitude of native plants, flowers, and trees making it a very secluded and tropical environment! You'll truly be able to "get away from it all" and have a relaxed and simply amazing vacation. This picture was taken from their bird-watching tower. Outdoor deck by Aliseeya Every night at 7 all the guests (and owners Pam and Jay) would gather around to talk and have some drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Inside, there is a bar, sitting area, and dining room -- this picture shows the outdoor deck. This was my favorite part of the hotel -- such a warm, social atmosphere! We met some very interesting and wonderful people during our trip. Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than average

Cabana at Guacamallo Jungle Camp by ksdhood I decribed David's place in my "Off the Beaten Path" tips -- You can inquire about them at his little office in San Ignacio -- called David's Adventure Tours. It is located right across from the parking lot where the buses gather. If you're looking for a somewhat rustic (but nice) place to stay out in the jungle, you need to check him out! I think I paid about $20 (US) for one night, which included a fantastic dinner and breakfast (prepared by a Guatemalan woman who works for him). Following is the description from the Rough Guide: "Simple cabins high above the river (which you cross in a canoe), located on the edge of a huge and mysterious Maya site; you'll have the pleasure of exploring this on your own. Lots of good food, much of it organically grown near the cabins, and a wonderful sense of timelessness at night as you sit on a Maya mound outside your cabin watching the stars." Best deal for jungle stay around -- Nuff said! Midas Resort -- Cabana by ksdhood Take a twenty minute walk to Branch Mouth (just ask anyone to direct you to Branch Mouth Road from downtown San Ignacio). Branch Mouth is where the Macal and Mopan rivers merge to form the Belize River. Midas Resort includes very nice sized (very clean!) cabanas for about $25(US) per night, which is unbelievable for what you get! Once you're traveling on Branch Mouth, you can't miss it - you will see the place. They have some thatched roof cabanas and some newer wooden cabins. All have private baths. You can take a nice walk down to Branch Mouth from here. Theme: OtherPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Branch Mouth Road from San Ignacio

jungle horse by EGitan If you want to stay in the Resort book well in advance. By the time we booked the vacation all of the cottages were booked so we were banished to the campground. It worked out well. The campground is located below the cottages and offer little wooden tent houses and have a communal bathroom. It was rustic and exciting to sleep in the jungle at night and much less expensive than the cottages. You have the option to eat in the campground or go up to the main lodge for dinner. We did both and had amazing meals. The tortillas were to die for. Walking back through the jungle at night can be an unnerving experience.....listening to the monkeys and the hiss of snakes hanging from the trees. Later on evening after I refused to go to the communal bathroom we heard a scream and found out that there were several posionous asps (snakes) found lurking in the toilet. Needless to say I didn't use that bathroom again. Either roughing it or staying in the posh cottages would be a great adventure. I would highly suggest the place. the campground is appx $50 a night.

Our Rental house as seen from above by Foundryman1 This is an aerial view of the house we rented on Ambergris Caye. It is about a mile south of San Pedro. About a 20 minute golf cart ride into town.It was nice being away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but I wished we didn't have to exchange our golf cart for a freshly charged cart everytime we went to town.We took this shot flying out of Ambergris Airport en route to the municipal airport in Belize City
You can see the pier and chiki hut at the end of it.Nice place to swim and just hang out.

View of the rental house from the dock by Foundryman1 Very secluded and private house. It had a really neat Tiki hut at the end of the dock . You could swim or fish or just hang in the hammock in the shade with an adult beverage.
You could catch small barracudas off the dock.I though that was cool..
