PEDRO'S INN: THE WORST PLACE IN THE WORLD!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE

by Ilove2travel2011

This place is DISGUSTING!!! All of the excellent postings HAVE to be by their staff. This place is a dump and the owner, Peter Lawrence, is the rudest, filthiest mouthed, disgusting human I have ever met in all my travels. You will regret staying here, even for the cheap price. The saying "you get what you pay for" is SO true here. You pay cheap and you get crap and insults. So disgustingly dirty, beyond words. All I can say is STAY AWAY. Talk to the locals, no one, and I mean NO ONE I talked to liked him, everyone wants him to leave the island.

Xanadu Island Resort: A Room with an Ocean View

Rainbow Hotel: Charming

by livinmydreams

The Rainbow Hotel in Caye Caulker is nothing out of the ordinary but it is priced well, clean and easy. We arrived from the mainland via a small commuter boat. The hotel is just across the street from the small dock, this made getting to our hotel a cinch!

The small hotel is simple and clean with an a/c unit in the window. It is located near the middle of the main strip and that was nice as well. Not noisy!

Make sure to get a room on teh 2nd floor, a nice breeze rolls in and the view and people watching is wonderful! Pull up a chair and relax.

by roamer61

Located in Caya not far from San Ignacio and owned by the Tut (pronounced Toot) Family, this resort feature a variety of cabanas ranging from clapboard to deluxe thatch roofed. All have ceiling fans, but no AC. The family takes good care of you providing appetizing meals in the spacious dining area. A deck is perfect for birdwatching or just for relaxation.

The resort offers a wide assortment of tours and excursions. See website for more info.

The kindness of the family and the rich birdlife combine to make this establishment highly reccommended.

Trek Stop: Great eco-conscious lodge in Western Belize

by kgduke

The Trek Stop is a great relaxed place to stay in Western Belize. The great restaurant offers Belizean and international dishes. Targeted to the budget and eco-friendly customers, the Trek Stop has basic but clean accommodations in cabins with twin, double, or bunk beds. Camping is also available. Bathrooms are shared or private and have composting toilets.

The Trek Stop has free internet and Wi-Fi, great restaurant, self-catering kitchen, dining area, and lounge area. The medicinal plant garden is interesting as is Tropical Wings butterfly center. Frisbee golf is available on site as well (the only one in Belize).

The Trek Stop is within walking distance of Xunantunich Mayan ruin and very close to the border with Guatemala.

From the website:
"Nestled within 22 acres of forest but easily accessible by bus, and designed with both environmental friendliness and comfort in mind, The Trek Stop is the ideal base for exploring Cayo or just relaxing in a natural setting. With the ambiance of an eco-jungle lodge but with budget hotel prices, The Trek Stop was named one of the best lodging values in Belize by Lan Sluder's Belize First! and is recommended by Rough Guides, Moon's Belize Handbook, Lonely Planet, and Fodor's guide books. "

"We offer simple but comfortable, clean, friendly, safe, and environmentally-sound lodging for relaxing or using as a base from which to explore western Belize and nearby Guatemala. Situated along the Western Highway, The Trek Stop is easy to reach by bus, car, or share-taxi."

Tropical Wings Nature Center hosts a number of butterflies.
Xunantunich Mayan ruin is within walking distance.
Interactive museum is great for kids and adults.
Eco-friendly lodge.
Frisbee golf.

Jungle Jeanie's By The Sea: Great location on beach

by kgduke

Jungle Jeanie's By The Sea is a great place to stay in southern Belize. Nearby Hopkins Village is a great little Garifuna village with (at least one of) everything that a tourist needs - restaurants, shops, bike rentals, tour companies.

We stayed in the least expensive lodging at Jungle Jeanie's - Sea Breeze (North or South) - for $55 US per night. It was adequate for what we needed - a safe, lockable, clean space to sleep at night. The more expensive cabanas have more space and amenities. All lodging is right on the water.

Meals are available at the dining/reception/bar thatched building at additional cost - breakfasts for $5 and dinners for around $13.

Jeanie, husband John, and manager Liz are all very friendly and helpful. The dogs - Zena, Volga, and Volga's now-adult puppies - are friendly and entertaining as well. Several of them enjoy surfboarding - a sight not to be missed!

Singing Sands Inn: Honeymoon Heaven in Belize

by T-and-J_Gibbo

Upon arrival at Belize International Airport an attendant, acting on behalf of our gracious hosts at the Singing Sands Inn, greeted us personally, by name, and guided us through customs, baggage check and onto our connecting flight. It was at that moment we realized this trip was going to be exceptional. But that was only the beginning of our week-long retreat immersed in the casual elegance and relaxed atmosphere as guests of the Singing Sands Inn.

A stunning beach resort alive with the quiet colors of a Caribbean Caye, we were warmly greeted as if being welcomed into their home and escorted to our private beach-front cabana just a few short steps from the Placencia Lagoon. It wasn’t so much the complete renovation of the entire Inn, as it was the extraordinary workmanship and complete attention to every detail that held us in awe. Everything, from the artwork, the furniture, and the landscaping, to the custom louvered-blinds designed to reign in the warm sea-breeze from any and every direction, was locally and meticulously hand-made.

The Bonefish Grille is a large, open air, beautifully furnished and decorated, palapa-roof restaurant and bar, conveniently located next to the swimming pool – again completely renovated. Testimony to the wildly inviting menu, perfect preparation, and impressive meal presentations, unexpected guests arriving for breakfast, lunch and dinner repeatedly returned throughout our entire stay. At each meal, the owners genuinely greeted every guest as an old friend, always creating a comfortable, tranquil atmosphere.

The perfect mixture of seclusion, romance, party and adventure, the list of excursions and entertainment seemed limitless. Whether exploring and snorkeling a brilliant barrier reef from the deck a chartered catamaran, discovering a deserted Caribbean Caye aboard a sport-craft, reeling in the catch of the day from a fishing boat, paddling in a clear bottom kayaking, discovering archeological ruins, spending an enchanted evening on a nearby private island, or just partying at the end of the 200 ft. pier at the Inn’s Chez Albert Bar, no stone was left unturned.

Honeymoon Heaven From beginning to end, our honeymoon at the Singing Sands Inn exceeded all of our expectations.

Teresa and Jim Gibbons
