manatee lodge: personal lodge at the lagoon of gales point

by hanspeter_W.

very beautiful scenery..able to see manatees, very friendly and helpful owner, good food

Manatee Lodge - in the Southern Lagoon - encircled by the majestic Maya Mountains is the ideal vacation destination. Centrally located yet remote, Manatee Lodge serves as a great base of operations from which to enjoy the rich natural beauty and wide variety of activities Belize offers.

Tropical Paradise Hotel: Watch out for bed bugs!!

by chatti5643

Bed bugs on not only one, but TWO mattresses!! Service was good about bringing in a new mattress, but too bad it was also infested. Ugh.

Great views though, right on the shore, and you could hang out on the piers as long as you wanted.

The Log Cab-Inn: Family Accomodation

by Neb2489

Alright, so the name is a bit tacky, but it does have its redeeming features.
Located on the outskirts of San Ignacio, the Log Cab-Innis a beautiful place, and Miguel (the caretaker) is very helpful in pointing you in the right direction to find wildlife (there are two armidillo that have taken up residence there and patrol the grounds early morning, along with many parots). However, getting a decent rate takes a little negotiating. Initially, they told us that it would be $55/cabin/night, but we talked it down to $45. The grounds here are gorgeous, and the cabins are quite nice as well, however, it seems the pool filter is never turned on, and the two women who run the front desk/kitchen were the only rude people I ever ran into in the country (literally), but overall - a nice place to stay for a few nights, especially for families, as it lies just out of the town and is very quiet.

- Quiet location; great for those traveling with kids and wanting to get out of the city, as well as those who love to be surrounded by nature.
- Grounds-keeper is very helpful for tour advice, as well as tips of catching some of the harder-to-find animals (however, he only recently moved to Belize from Guatemala, so he speaks little English)

Rainbow Hotel: Caye Caulker Budget Hotel

by iwys

The Rainbow Hotel is a reasonable place to stay in Caye Caulker. It's a basic, two-storey block, but it has a very good location on the waterfront. The rooms are simple, but clean. A double with fan and private bathroom costs $35-40. A few of the rooms have TV.

Thatch Caye Resort: Belize's best vacation package

by optc

I went to Belize in June and stayed at Thatch Caye Resort where some people in our group did diving, others did snorkelling, and others did sea kayaking. Then we got two days out of our package to do inland tours. One was to the Mayan ruins up at Xunantunich and another was cave tubing. I went on both tours and did some scuba diving. The reefs there were awesome and even though there had been some recent flooding in the area, the water was very clear and visibility was good. My wife is a snorkeller and she was taken to some excellent spots where she got to see turtles, spotted eagle rays, and even a manatee when she went on the sea kayaking/snorkelling tour through the mangroves. Our dive master was top notch and always explained the dive to everyone very clearly and he was very attentive to us and to our surroundings while we were underwater. He often showed us sharks or manta rays passing that we would have otherwise missed.

I would highly recommend a vacation at Thatch Caye especially for those who want to combine some inland eco-adventure with their watersports. Their food was also excellent and their staff was very friendly and helpful.

Thatch Caye is located right near the barrier reef on the edge of a marine reserve. It is also only a half hour's boat ride to land, making it an ideal spot for water activities and for exploring inland mountain areas.

Hamanasi: Diver's Resort

by klasher

We did not actually stay here, but we spent some time on the property of this small botique hotel because we dove with them. The grounds are beautiful and tranquil. The vegatation and gardens are the most well maintained out of all of the area I experienced in Southern Belize. We peeked in a room and it was pretty standard looking. The rooms are hidden in the trees and about 300 feet from the beach. Most people stay here to dive the southern barrier reef and the atolls.

The dive staff is excellent!

Mamanoots: Fantastic experience

by calumrobertson

Stayed at Mamanoots in Feb 2008 and had a fantastic time. I previously knew Nan (the owner) vaguely from my previous time volunteering in Belize. She now has her daughter Camille and (almost) son-in-law Jason helping our. Such a friendly family and made our stay really memorable :-)

In the middle of the jungle but still very very comfortable without being pretentious like some 'exclusive' lodges. The staff are lovely and always make you feel welcome and you feel like you leave as friends.

Omar's Place: Placencia

by wardski12

Absolutely amazing place, we came to stay for only 2 days or so, we ended up staying nearly a week. And in that week we did absolutely nothing but chill out and drink the fabulous smoothies Omar makes up.

We had a bbq one night, with which he helped us prepare and cook the fish. Omar took us wandering and we picked wild Limes, herbs and spices.

A truly memorable place to go, a family run business that really takes care of its guests

Its right on the beach, quiet, a short walk from the bars and restaurants which are on the main strip.

Many rooms, all of them have locks and lockers in each room. Hot shower on all the time. Kitchen facilities and bbq which can be used if you ask Omar.
