Nu'uk Che'il Cottages: Mayan Immersion

For those interested in learning about Mayan culture, or just looking for a clean, friendly place to stay near the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, I highly recommend the Nu'uk Che'il Cottages in Maya Centre. Nu'uk Che'il is run by Ernesto Saqui, an avid conservationist who served as sanctuary director for almost fifteen years, and his wife Aurora, a well-known artist and one of the Garcia Sisters, the inventors of slate carving in Belize. Among other things, there is an on-site herbal center, a medicinal trail, and a botanical garden. Ernesto and Aurora also can arrange a homestay with a Mayan family for more complete cultural immersion.
