Blue Crab Beach Resort: Blue Crab Beach Resort

We were eager to go to the Blue Crab for our first Belize trip, based largely on the Blue Crab website, the absence of negative online reviews, the friendliness of Linn, and the few, though positive, reviews of Seine Bight Village in various travel guides (even the New York Times). Our first impression of the Blue Crab upon arrival was that it was rather ramshackle. We thought "we're paying $100 a night for this?" We were met in the office by a less-than-enthusiastic staff member. We signed some papers, and were shown to our room, which, though spartan (which we were okay with), was seemingly haphazardly put together (which surprised us, given that this place bills itself as a 'resort'). The shower was pretty moldy. The A/C rooms are side-by-side in a single building, which means that you share a deck and hammock with the guests next door. This means that your experience there can be very much influenced by who is staying right next door; the walls are super thin and we heard every footstep and every word spoken by the people staying next to us. This takes me to the 'restaurant.' Dinner cost an average of US$20-$25. The quality of food was fair, even though it billed itself as a 'gourmet' establishment. We were surprised that many of the items on the menu weren't available for one reason or another. Our food took a ridiculously long time to arrive at our table. One night, our food took (no joke) two hours to be served. We felt a need to write a review of the Blue Crab because there aren't any and we wanted to share our experiences with vacationers planning a trip to the Placencia penninsula. We were shocked at the thought that people might spend their honeymoon there (they offer honeymoon packages). Honeymooners could do much better in Placencia itself, or north, at Caye Caulker or Ambergris.

Two cabanas that don't face the ocean
Two larger A/C rooms
