Loved our stay at Discovery Point Club
by TripAdvisor Member bamaman1130
We stayed at Discovery Point Club for six nights and felt like we were in paradise! Ollie and Anna Rose made us feel like we were part of the family when we arrived. Our condo was just what we were looking for and we really enjoyed sitting out on the screen-enclosed balcony in the evenings. All of the condos are oceanfront and only a few steps from the water.
There was great snorkeling right by the water's edge and it was not too far from cemetary reef. We enjoyed cooking on the gas grills that are available for use.
We looked on the internet at a lot of places on Seven Mile Beach before we decided on Discovery Point Club. It's hard to beat the value you get when you compare Discovery Point Club with other condos. It is located on the quiet part of Seven Mile Beach in the West End area. We will return again on our next visit to Grand Cayman.
Discovery Point Club and Cayman Marine Lab Dive Master
by TripAdvisor Member gp0621
I read all the comments on the Discovery Point Club and the ever so helpful Ollie, General Manager at the location, and it was all true! Great location, perfect for a family. Tthe condo was very clean and the people were so friendly and nice. Our Dive Master Tom, from the Cayman Marine Lab was very good - he has an uncanny nack for seeing things happen before they do. Thankyou Tom! Best snorkelling was at Brackham's Pub in Georgetown - don't miss it!
Quiet, Great Beach Location

This was our third stay at the Discovery Point Club. We love the ground floor units where you can walk out the door of your screened patio, take several steps and you are on a beautiful section of Seven Mile Beach. Discovery Point is located on the quieter West Bay section of Seven Mile Beach. The managers, Ollie and Ann-Rose, are very service minded. Ollie went out of her way to help with a work emergency. Overall, Discovery Point is a good value.

wonderful resort!
by TripAdvisor Member lovecaymans
We just got back from a wonderful week at Discovery Point! After researching for a long time we finally chose this resort and were glad we did! The resort is near the quiet end of Seven Mile Beach, but is only a two-minute drive to grocery, restaurants and activities. We loved being away from the really big crowds in the noisier center of SMB. Some days we were the only people on the beach - like having our own private island! It was never a problem to get a shady tiki hut or beach chairs each day. The condos are literally 20 steps from the water. And what great water! That part of SMB is teaming with reefs that harbor every imaginable fish! We saw hundreds of them just a few yards out. And its just a few hundred yards down from Cemetary Reef, a famous reef on the island. Ollie Ebanks runs a beautiful resort. Our flight into the island was delayed and Ms. Ebanks even offered to go grociery shopping for us since the store would be closed when we got there! The condos are spacious and well-equipped. Our family of five had plenty of room. They are very clean as are the grounds. I never saw a piece of trash anywhere! There is daily maid service which supplies fresh towels and toilet paper/soap - even beach towels. The pool and hot tub were wonderful and they even have pool floats and sand toys to play with. My husband especially liked the gas grills which are available to use! We bought lots of fresh seafood and grilled it ourselves. I was especially glad we chose this resort because of the SCREENED-IN PORCHES. The bugs do come out after sundown and most resorts only have a balcony no screen. Discovery Point has a large screened in lanai which we spent hours on! I even slept out there one night as the waves and the ceiling fan lulled us to sleep! As for excursions - we thoroughly enjoyed Soto's trip to Stingray City. They take lots of pictures and you can buy your pictures on a disk to take home with you! The Reef Grill is delicious as is Deckers. One of our favorites for the kids was the trip on the Jolly Roger pirate ship. The kids loved the two-hour trip and were treated like realy pirates! This excusion is definitely worth the money even if only for the free rum punch! There is more here too numerous to mention, but if you want a relaxing vacation with no worries I would definitely stay at Discovery Point Club. Ollie Ebanks will take great care of you!!
Great Vacation!

We just returned from a wonderful week on Grand Cayman. This was our first trip after Hurricane Ivan hit the island in 2004. We had stayed at Discovery Point several years earlier -- so this was a return trip. Our condo had been completely refurbished since the storm and was very nice and very well equipped. The staff was extremely helpful to us as we made our plans to be on the island for the week. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will return and stay at Discovery Point again.
What a fabulous place!

We got married at DPC Memorial Day weekend and we could not have asked for anything more than DPC gave us. The staff, both Ollie and her assistant, were fabulous. The maids were efficient. I can not say enough about this place. We had originally planned on getting married at the Meridian, on central 7 mile beach, and that fell through at the last minute because of problems trying to coordinate what we ultimately wanted with a beach wedding. I called DPC and they were quick to please.
Almost all of our guests (around 30) also stayed at DPC, and we didn't hear one complaint, in fact, all we heard were raves about where we picked to have the wedding. I was a little concerned because I had not seen it in person when we decided to stay there and get married there b/c it is an older property. But once you get there, you wouldn't know it. I saw at least 10 of the condos and they were all nicely decorated and spacious and would be great for families as well, even though we had mostly adults.
I was also relieved to be on the north end of seven mile beach. It was quiet. The beach was much bigger than that of others and at times had it all to yourself. I would suggest renting a car to drive around the island and would caution traveling during peak hours b/c traffic can be problem.
I would definitley recommend this place to anyone! It was fabulous and I can't wait to go back!
Discovery Point Perfect!

We stayed at DPC from July 11-20 it was truly a wonderful experience. We have two daughters ages 12 and 9. They never wanted to leave the beach or the water. We did breakfast and lunch in our well equipped condo and then went out for supper every night. The snorkeling was great right off of our beach and cemetary reef was just a short walk. We loved the screened in porch and the laundry facility was handy and very clean. The whole place was sparkling. We especially loved the grass huts on the beach. We loved being at the quiet end, as a crowded day was maybe 20 or so friendly people on the beach. We would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a friendly atmosphere and a relaxing time on the beach.
A great place to stay

This was our second stay at Discovery Point. It was just as good as we remembered it. There were 4 of us and there was plenty of room for everyone. The condo was nicely furnished. Every unit has a porch that opens onto the beach. We like the location but you do need a car to get into town.
The staff is very nice. Ollie Ebanks does a great job. She knows all the local places to go and where the good resturants are.
We heartily recommend Discovery Point.
Absolutely Perfect

What a wonderful vacation. I can't say enough wonderful things about Discovery Point. Ollie and Ann Rose treated us like family. It may have been the friendliest place we've ever stayed.
We stayed in Unit 11 - 2nd floor. It was very nicely decorated, fully equiped and right on the beach - as are all of the units. We were literally just steps to the water. The snorkleing was so good out front that my girls hardly wanted to leave to go anywhere else. But we did.
We loved Sting Ray City. We did the 3hr tour with Capt. Marvin. I highly recommend them. Make sure you do the late after
noon trip 2:30 - 5:30 to avoid the cruise ship crowds. They take you to 2 different reefs for snorkleing and then to Sting Ray City. At one of the reefs the guide let us pet a nurse shark and an eel! However, the sting rays were our favorite. They are just like cats - rubbing up against you for attention. An unbelievable experience.
We also snorkled at Eden Rock which is right in the middle of downtown and Cemetery Reef which is 2 minutes from the condo.
The food was wonderful, although expensive. Our favorite was the Calypso Grill. We also ate at Deckers, Cafe Med, Breezes, Cimboco and Rackhams (sp?). At Rackhams the girls got to feed tarpon that came up to the deck. They loved it.
One of the things I really liked about Discovery Point is that it isn't in the middle of the resorts. You'll definitely want to have a rental car. Nothing is that far away, but it helps if you want to go into town. Its on the north end of Seven Mile Beach and very laid back - no one is doing shooters at a swim up bar! Its also very family oriented. No wild crowds. Everyone there was so friendly. Most of the families had been coming for years and become friends- even planning to make sure they would be there at the same time. I had two 14-year olds and one 9-year old and everyone was happy (that never happens).
Disappointed with beach erosion
by TripAdvisor Member caribariba
Our family stayed in one of DP beachfront condos lured by pictures and promise of their wonderful, soft sandy beach.
The beach in front of our building was eroded almost to the swimming pool wall. which made it very difficult to get inand out of the ocean. Rocky beach and coral were hard on feet, especially for kids.
Otherwise the property was very clean and well appointed.

Embroidered Ladies Blouses
by GrandmaFalls
Hi,
I will be in the Grand Caymans on January 13, 2009. I am interested in purchasing some embroidered ladies blouses. The ones I want are usually white with very vibrant colorful embroidery on them. Ususally scenes with people and animals. I would concider them to be casual. I have been told that what I am looking for might be found in South America. Do you know of any shops that I might check out while on the Island that migh offer them for sale? Also, I am interested in a Used Book Store or a source to purchase The Little Golden Books in foreign languages.
Thanks,
Lynda

The only place I've seen the types of blouses that you described was in Mexico City. There is a saturday bazaar that meets in front of the Mexican government offices on the main street downtown and those types of blouses were everywhere. You may be able to get them in a Mexican shop in the caymans.

I have seen blouses of this type on the island of Curaco. Sadly I have not had the pleasure of visiting the Grand Caymans so I cannot help out there.
