Colorful Ara Macao at Zoo Ave entrance.
My first, and only, picture of a Quetzal! Tadaaa!! I would have done without the bars though...
I have to say the cage was big enough for the couple to fly around.
Lazy green iguana
Big gentle turtle...
one of the many keel billed Toucan there. Even though we saw a lot in Tortuguero, we never had the chance to see them that close. This is a beautiful and colorful bird, isn't it?!
The great green ara is a shy one as we never saw him outside the zoo (heard him once, according to our Tortuguero guide). His specie is endengered. So he's an important resident of the zoo.
The star of the show, but you have to find him. There is two of these green parrots, silently standing on their perch, overshadowed by the colorful ara around them. Once I started to pay attention to them, they started to answer back and make little parrot noises. But when I started to laugh, one of them laugh back. And laugh and laugh. With an impressive collection of human laughs. It was so funny, I couldn't speak and tears were running freely. In itself, this little guyis worth the visit.
