Irazu Volcano
The Ascent of the Irazu Volcano, above the busy city of Cartago, through the colorful patchwork of fields and farms, over the clouds, is a picturesque experience worth the trip.
Small sinuous road that smells like the vegetables growing in the fields... oignons, then tomatoes, then potatoes, then...
Colorful farms, old machinery, livestock, a scene from another time...
The crater principal, an impressive view over wind and cold temperature!
Details in the walls of the principal crater are witness to the power on the "thunder and shake mountain".
A little fence running through out the perimeter of the principal crater... so the wind won't push you inside!
A second crater you can see, the Fiego de la Haya crater. A weird peanut looking and dried-up crater if I might say...
The third accessible crater of the Irazu volcano, the Playa Hermosa crater, and the dwarf forest on the putside walls, both of them you can walk up too, and the gray rocky ground that feels like walking on the moon.
Very few wildlife can be seen at the Irazu volcano. This little hummingbird felt very confident about its position and kept comming back for more pics. Not the most colorful I ever seen, but quite a strong little guy to live that high in that harsh of an environment.
