Nice rooms and quiet grounds.

I enjoyed this hotel although we did not spend much time here. The rooms were spacious and clean. The rooms also had wifi. The front desk staff was very helpful. This is a very small hotel. I believe they only have ten rooms that are set up bungalow style. Beautiful grounds but no services like a pool. Breakfast was included, very basic tipico style in a small dinning area. Lunch and dinner are not available.

Unique Quality: I would definitely stay here again because it was quiet and very affordable.

Travel Tips for Fortuna

A few tips on packing lists.

by Snipernurse

An extra duffle bag to carry around all the suvenirs you might buy. Water sandals for white water rafting. The river bank is rocky and some walking is required. Swim trucks for rafting and for hot springs. Hiking shoes for hiking around Arenal. Sun Screen. First Aid Kit. Skeeter repellent. Baby Wipes. Lots of it!

La Paz Waterfalls

by SumTingWong

The Peace Waterfalls (Cataratas de La Paz) are located outside the Arenal area. You would have to eithor take a bus or car, but it in an interesting spot to see some Costa Rican waterfalls. La Paz waterfalls are on the wat to Arenal from San Jose, so you could easily make a stop here for a few hours. There are several waterfalls, and it is just a nice area to visit. There is an admission fee, something like US$20, a bit steep, to have axcess to the whole area, but you can visit some of the falls without paying.

Arenal Volcano

by Dutch1980

An active volcano is worth a visit, the best time to visit it is ofcourse at night.
Together with a lot of tourists you watch the mountain in the dark.... you see oranje fireballs (from a far distance) They light up in the dark and you see it roll down ( just seconds)

You have to be lucky beacause on a crowded day there is nothing to see....

Arenal Volcano (3)

by SumTingWong

If you go to Fortuna you must see the Arenal Volcano. The town was made around the volcano, and almost everything dealing with tourist revolves around the volcano. It is very active and at night be sure to look up and some red lava chunks falling out of the rim, looks like fireworks. During the day head over to the Volcan Arenal Parque National and take a hike around the base of the volcano. Be sure to be very quiet and you can hear the rumbeling of the volcano. Also about every three minutes a car-sized chunk of lava falls from the rim and tumbels down the side of the volcano, it appears like a falling cloud down the volcano during the day and a firework at night. Really awesome!

The hike around the national park is very interesting! Go for ot!!

La Fortuna and Surrounding Towns

by SumTingWong

La Fortuna and some of the surrounding towns are worth a visit too. Here you can go to the plaza, go to some of the shops and find some good restaurants. There are some good photography oppertunities, and it is just a good way to see how the local people of the area live.
