Only if you are a very tight budget
Their ad agency did a great job with the camera. The hotel is pretty cheesy, access down a little alley which gets locked at night (with no instructions on how to get in or out) If the night watchman is too far down the street, you might feel trapped. There are a couple of fast food places and an internet cafe off the alley and the "aroma" from the fast food is evident. We thought we were getting a great deal and view, but found many nicer hotels in the area at a similar price.
Unique Quality: Nothing special. The view of Arenal is not unobstructed.
Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

Helpfulness
A budget and clean stay
The upstairs room is very basic, but clean and tidy with a large window. My room has an individual bathroom with hot shower. The noise level is loud, especially facing the supermarket parking lot. However, it is a safe place to stay, as they lock the main gate at night.
Unique Quality: This is a 3 stories budget hotel just off the town center. The first floor has individual room with shared bathroom, which costs $10 a night. All rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor have individual bathroom, and it's $15 a night. Only room #27 and #33 have unobstructed full view of the volcano. #33 has the greatest view.
Breakfast is included, which is at the soda next door. You can choose from scrambled eggs and toast, gallo pinto, or fresh fruits and a piece of toast with marmalade.
A great time with Desafio white water rafting. A great work out and pretty intense. Sometimes people do get hurt, but luckily our group went unscathed. A well run operation. Remember to bargain amongst the different companies when you get there!
Animal life & a view of an active volcano
by twoinluv
On the property of Los Lagos Hotel (www.hotelloslagos.com) there is a dirt road 2 kilometers long that takes you to the top of a hill opposite the volcano. They have a look out point where you can watch the volcano flow. While we were there we happened upon a little coatimundi, a cute little creature.
Central Park
by mim95
The central park is located in the middle of the town, surrounded by souvenir shops, tour companies, restaurants, sodas and a church. It has a stone pavilion at the SE corner next to the bus stop, which is a great place to rest and watch the volcano. The park itself is planted with beautiful flowers, and there is a tiny replica of Volcano Arenal and the nearby Cerro Chato in the center of the park.
Penas Blancas River Safari
by BEETLE_VERTE
This short but exquisite boat tour on the Penas Blancas river, close to La Fortuna is quite worth it. Not too expensive if you compare with other boat ride like Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge (which I heard to be amazing tho): 35$ per person for a half day trip including a snack. Book it everywhere.
We floated down the river and got the opportunity to see monkeys, sloth, bats and many species of birds (didn't see the crocodiles tho). Our guide was interesting, having something to say on about every subject (from football to canadian bears, traditionnal meals and earth quakes). His background as a farmer and bird guide in Monteverde allowed him a great deal of informations and a very good eye!
Bring: Camera, binocular, insect repellent, sandals and sunscreen. The pneumatic boat will always have a little water at the bottom so dont wear shoes and dont bring a bag.

La Fortuna's Catholic Church
by easterntrekker
The church is quite a landmark . It seems every hotel in the area gives directions based on how far they are from the church .
It is quite a nice spacious modern church with beautiful stained glass windows.
